Is it safe to take ADVIL before surgery?

I think being 13 days out, you're fine. I had my preop visit this afternoon (3/1), my surgery is Friday (3/3), just 2 days away. My doctor told me not to take ibuprofin or aspirin between now and Friday. He told me to take acetamenaphin (Tylenol) for a headache.

Good luck!

Is it safe to take ADVIL before surgery?

Just called my gynecologist's office and I am sooooo frustrated! First of all the doctor was gone for the day and the secretary didn't know. She said she will call back in the morning. Then I asked if she could also check to see if I would be able to get a bladder sling when I get my hyst. and she said it was too late to ask, my surgery is scheduled for 2 hours and that's the time it takes for a TAH. If I really want the sling, I have to postpone to end of June! By then my "pre-cancerous uterus" will probably be cancerous. I was told on January 5 that I needed an emergency TAH but have to wait over 2 months for a surgery date. I will certainly not change my date when I only have 13 days to wait. It makes me mad because I called a few weeks ago wanting to see my gynecologist because I had questions before the surgery and was told that all my questions would be answered at pre-op and that the gyne doesn't have time to see me to answer questions. I felt like telling her that if it wasn't for Hyster Sisters, there's not much I would know right now! Oh well, I guess I'll have to keep a pack of Kotex to use when I go to parties and laugh too much since my bladder won't be fixed LOL. Thanks for listening to my complaining....Frenchie

Is it safe to take ADVIL before surgery?

That stinks Frenchie! One thing, they can do the bladder sling thing vaginally so it could be done later on. I have heard the tvt itself is not so bad so it's not like the recovery would be bad twice.

But then remember that this is the secretary telling you that. The dr might be able to do it. It is his OR time, they can't kick him out at 2 hours just because he is not done. I mean, things get bumped all the time.

Hang in there! Next time, demand the dr calls YOU back so you can ask!!!! Hugs Raymo

Is it safe to take ADVIL before surgery?

My castle visit is the day before yours....stopped my trusty Advil last thursday. They told me to take nothing but that darn Tylenol which I'm convinced is a placebo!!! Does nothing!!! Hang in there....soon we won't need it anymore!! ~~happy dance~~~

Is it safe to take ADVIL before surgery?

I was told no advil but tylenol is ok. I was told to stop the advil one week prior to surgery. That's ok, I've since found the extra strength tylenol helps with the pain better than advil and I sleep through the night. Also be careful of taking any herbal/homeopathic remedies you are taking that can affect the blood.

Update From Doctor

Good morning ladies, the doctor's office just called me. It is O.K. to use Tylenol up until the day before surgery but NO Advil (ibupropen) from now until surgery (12 days away yahoo!!!)
Thanks everyone for your help. Frenchie
