blood test results

I got a copy of my blood test results. estradiol <14.0, progesterone <0.30, testosterone 36, testosterone free 0.94. My doc had me on a compounding cream, but I was getting hot flashes and bloating, she thought it may be the progesterone so she switched me to veivelle patch, I think its the lowest one. I didn't feel that great on it so I went back to the cream but lowered the dose. At first I was doing o.k., but I've started packing on the weight and yesterday I started getting severe fatigue, headaches, and craving sweets. I started back on the vivelle. I wish there was an easy solution. My joints ache and I feel too tired to exercise.

Hi!

You're not alone wishing it was easier to find balance. Unfortunately, it can take some of us a long time to get our hormones sorted out. Time and patience, trial and error is the name of the game.

Did your doctor give you the reference range for your test results? Labs vary on the numbers. To know what your numbers mean you need to have the reference range, and be sure it's the range for someone pre-menopausal rather than post.

I hope you are keeping a journal of your symptoms. It can help you and your doctor figure out what tweaking to do. Print the too much/too little list and use it as a guide as you work to find balance. It's tempting to make changes at the first sign of symptoms but in the long run it's better to give each change several weeks to work before considering another.

It's frustrating--no doubt about it! You're in good company here in the Hormone Jungle. I hope you start to feel better soon!

(((giselle))) I'm confused ... if you were having headaches and hot flashes on a low dose of cream, why would you try an even lower dose? I would have been inclined to raise it. Same with the patch. The fatigue, headaches, flashes, joint pain are all associated with low estrogen. Your test results bear this out. Why not try more estrogen rather than less?

blood test results

Hi Linda,
My doc thought the progesterone was causing the flashes and bloating. I'm not sure what to think. Now I'm back on the patch and I've been nauseous all day. I have not had any flashes at all in awhile even on the lower dose of cream. I started estrace cream due to severe atrophy. When I used it the first night the burning was so bad the next day I didn't think I could use it again. My doc said I could try estring. I'm wondering if the estring will take longer to work though than the estrace. I really need relief sooner rather than later so I tried the estrace again but used a little less. The itching and burning is friving me crazy and everything I've tried to put on doesnt relieve it.
As far as the compounding cream and the patch part me wonders if I should just stop everything, and wait a little while and then try again. The sad thing is I wasn't really having any really bad symptoms before I started them, just a little teary at times. I sought out the bioidenticals to try to prevent problems. I'm real concerned about gaining weight and aging faster as well as my bones. Sorry to ramble on and on but you just seem to have so much knowledge in this area. Thanks

Hi (((Giselle))) thanks for sharing your info. I have an appt next week and will ask my NP to test my levels too. I think I am having some atrophy in the clitorial area and I am dry down there. The Estrace creme isn't helping all that much. I also feel down and fatigued. I'm learning so much from your posts. I didn't realize that you needed to know the labs range to read your results. I just figured that low was low. If it's not imposing please post again if you learn anything. I so greatly appreciate your sharing.
All my Best Wishes to you.
