Hyst sched tomorrow-starting to freak !
Hi ladies,
You know I wasn't nervous about my surgery tomorrow, really, until they just called me to tell me that they have me scheduled for an overnight stay (just in case) which is fine but the nurse had on her paperwork a Total Hysterectomy which I discussed with the doctor we were keeping the ovaries and cervix. She said the doctor will see me before I go in anyways. She marked in on my chart and she said it happens some times where it is noted on her paperwork but the one I signed when I went 2 weeks ago clearly shows what is being done and what was discussed with the doctor.
My question is: did anyone have a laproscopic hysterectomy sched for removing the uterus only and when they got in there they had to do an abdominal hyst? As you remember, they are removing my uterus due to fibroids in my uterus. I have been told, my uterus is as big as a 3mth pregnant woman.
Pls help...I am freaking out now!!
Thanks
KM

Hyst sched tomorrow-starting to freak !
Hi Kokom! I'm going in knowing it could go either way. My dr. wants to do a TVH, but he said that with 3 previous c-sections, he's worried there may be adhesions which would neccessitate a change to TAH. So, when I go, he will do a laparascope and look around and decide from there. That way, I am only put under once. I just won't know until I wake up which way it went. Its good knowing that ahead of time as I can prepare for TAH, and if its only TVH, then it will be a pleasant surprise. As for keeping the ovaries and cervix, when you see your doctor before the surgery, make sure he/she is clear on that. Also, if there is any additional paperwork ie consent, make sure it is clear on that too, or don't sign it until it is clear. That, hopefully, will give you peace of mind.
I will keep you in my prayers

Hey Kokum, you will be fine. I had a LAVH and im ok. If you are scheduled for laparscopic, it will be laparscopic, unless some unforeseen problem is discovered while undergoing the surgery, but if they have to do the abdominal surgery, you will be fine, just need to take it easy.
Most women stay in the hospital 1-4 days depending on how you are doing and feeling, just remember to have someone at home to help you with all your tasks, chores and whatever else, as you need to take it easy in order for your body to heal fully. Out of curosity, where do you live? I am in Saskatchewan. Just wondering as I have lots of kokums in Saskatchewan.
Take care and let us know how you are doing. We will be thinking of you.

Hi Girls,
Thanks so much for your support and prayers. I cannot wait until this is over with!!
Eycqueen, I live in Michigan. Koko is just a nickname my boyfriend has always called me. Quick story, when we first met he used to say how great I smelled and I told him I use "Palmers" cocoa butter which smells like cocoa/chocolate and the rest is history.

Hi Kokum
I am going in tomorrow as well for a TAH with the removal of my one remaining ovary and tube. I had previous c-sections as well and that is why the doc suggested we not do vaginal. She said the chance for prolapse was great. So, I will think of you tomorrow and just know that your doc will do everything they can to help you. I was very nervous and now I am feeling ready... just think about what our lives are going to be like one month from now.......
Blessings to you
KC
