bladder infection wont go away

My hysterectemy was on March 1st and I still have my catheter in and I have a bladder infection that has been given 3 different anti-biotics but nothing helps. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?? Im starting to freak out that its my kidneys or something...

bladder infection wont go away

I had 3 courses of antibiotics before my UTI cleared up. I had a catheter for 3 weeks and then at 5 weeks, had the stent taken out of my ureter. I had a cystogram and a cystoscopy, so every time something is in there, so to speak, increases the risk of an infection. My infection was resistant to the typical antibiotics and we finally got the right one on the last try! Even after my infection was cleared up, I still had bladder pain, spasms etc. It's only been the past week when I haven't had some kind of ache or pain when voiding. I can only tell you that it will get better. Hang in there!

Why do you have the cathetor in still? My doctor said they wanted to take it out as soon as possible because having the cathetor in causes bladder infections. Mine was out the day after surgery.

the catheter is out!

Hi, thanks so much for your reply. Its so relieving to know that Im not the only one (i know that sounds bad, i dont wish this upon anyone.. but u know what i mean) its definately comforting.
Anyways, the catheter was removed today because they think that this might be the reason for infection. The reason why it was in so long was because i wasnt voiding enough after surgury. It wasnt until 3 days after my hysterectemy that I actually could pee, and it was very minimal. But today its out.. Im waiting for the results from the urine sample so that I know which anti biotic to use.. so far none of them are working but Im using this one that relieve pain and makes your urine turn orange. Who knows it could have been the catheter.. i absolutely hate that thing it made me feel so dirty for some reason. So i feel fabulous today that its finally out.
Thanks so much for your reply. This website is really helping me out because im 23 and no one i know has every had surgury let alone a hysterectemy. So this website is very informative and a great support network.
Anyways thanks again!

bladder infection wont go away

I am so glad you finally had the cathetor removed. I have to say, I was concerned that your doctor would allow you to have this for so long. Hope you're feeling better by now.

Are you drinking cranberry juice? My doctor told me to drink that to keep them away.. I switch off, one day I'll have a glass, the next day I'll take a couple of cranberry pills a couple times a day.. So far my infection hasn't come back.

bladder infection wont go away

My urologist gave me macrobid which made me sick to my stomach and then he gave me Cipro which could really clear up anything. Have you tried either of these? Also when the urine was cultured it should say on the results which antibiotic will work best for the infection. Has your urine been cultured? This takes anywhere from 24-72 hours to get the results for and usually it will say on the result paper which antibiotic works best.
