Hyst worse than C-section???

I've had 3 C-sections. Is a hysterectomy & recovery more painful or about the same??? My hyst is coming up next mo. & I do not know what to expect. From what I've read here it seems a hyst may be worse. Anyone have any useful info??? Many thanks.

Hyst worse than C-section???

I also had 3 c-sections and had tah in Dec. It really was easier than the c-sections. Pain management was better because I wasn't concerned about breast milk. It really was far less painful and you don't have a newborn to take care of or get up with. They only thing I would say was really hard was not having energy and tiring easily. It does take more time to bounce back. I also had to realize that I am 20 years older than when I had my c-sections. There is also the belly swelling that continues still. It seems to happen the more I am on my feet. I am still somewhat tender at times in my stomach. Those are the thing that are really different than the c-sections. Overall my energy level is about 10 times better than it was before surgery and any swelling and pain after the 1st month is far less than any period. It was well worth it. I wish I would have done it sooner. I hope yours goes as well as mine. I'll keep you in prayer. Hang in there. Cathy

Hyst worse than C-section???

I'd also imagine you wouldn't have that 'contracting' pain you get whife breastfeeding.
I also remember the severe pain when my uterus was still contracting b/c they kept the pitocin going for a day to shrink my uterus.

I am small framed, and w/ a bulging uterus it makes me look pg, I'd imagine once they take it out, i won't have that prob!?

Hyst worse than C-section???

I have had 4 c-sect and mine was worse but I really think it depends on how much they have to do. I ended up having to have a lot done that they were not expecting. So I was prepared for it to be like the c-sect one great thing my doc did was gave me the option of a spinal and it was wonderful kept me nice a numb for about 2 days it was great. I think it really helped when the next morning came and I got up for that first time. Good Luck you will be in my thoughts and prayers please feel free to email if you have any questions
Lots of hugs

Hyst worse than C-section???

I can not begin to imagine looking after a newborn after the impact of a c-section. I had 2 long, but very easy, natural deliveries, and I found having a newborn hard enough. Kudos to all you sisters who have had c-sections and been through it. You have a very deep inner strength, whether you realize it or not

Young Bloomer...you will be fine...good luck with the surgery

Hyst worse than C-section???

You know I had forgot about it until you mentioned it. My belly did look pg before the the tah. Even with the swelling it isn't that big. When I went back to work people thought I had lost weight. lol

Hyst worse than C-section???

I just had my hyst a week ago and found it to be a little more difficult than the c-section. Mostly, for me though, it was due to extreme bruising and swelling and my young son wanting mommy back. He is 15 months and relies on me for the majority of his comfort, Daddy is great to play with but not the same as me. At any rate, I found it to be similar in the incisional pain as my c-section was. The pain management for me was almost the same, I quit the pain meds sooner with the c-section, but I didn't have the bruising to contend with.
I also had similar difficulties with having a bm this time around so I would recommend if you anticipate this asking for a stool softner as soon as you can.
Best of luck!!

Hyst worse than C-section???

I had a c-section 21 years ago.Just had total hysterectomy 6 days ago. In some ways it is easier and some ways harder. The inscion is the same cut so not too much pain there but they had to pull one of my leg nerves out of the way to get out my cervix and no pain pills to date has cured it and it hurts every time I walk. Only hot water bottle seems to dull the pain for short while. I also got a bladder infection from surgery this time so peeing every 40 minutes makes it harder to heal cause I am up and down too much. Over all the boredom is the worst because I am not taking care of a baby to keep my mind off of things. Don't miss the uterus contractions from breastfeeding though. Over all I feel like I have more energy than with the c-section. Everybody is different. I did think it would hurt less but I think it hurts more becuse they took my cervix, ovaries and tubes so lots of inner wounds to heal.
