how long hospital stay with TAH???

I had my TAH on a Tuesday night and was out Thursday afternoon. However, I would have stayed longer if my insurance would have permitted it -- the extra time would have really helped. The longer you can stay, the better I think!

I'm also having a TAH. My doctor tells me, depending on your level of positive mental attitude, you can be back at work in 2 weeks. How do sisters who have just gone through this procedure feel about that timescale? Realistic? Or not?

how long hospital stay with TAH???

For my TAH I was in the hospital for 4 days. As for being able to go back to work after 2 weeks, I would say that is unrealistic. I am sure it has happened before, but I would not count on it. I had a great attitude while I was healing and I did not even feel slightly like doing to many things a 2 weeks ( I could not even drive until I was 3 weeks). If I were you, I would plan on taking the full 6 weeks. Attitude can have alot to do with your recovery, but you still have to let your body do its healing.

how long hospital stay with TAH???

That sounds like my doctor, Lev, lol. (Until she got with my other doc's...I have really bad autoimmune and asthma disease). She said a 2 day stay and I wouldn't need anyone at home at all, could go back to doing whatever I did before, lol. Everyone I told that too looked at me like I had a third eye, lol. Well, I went BACK to her and talked to the NP and she said 'Well, some have'. Alrighty then. My internist/PCP said I'd be lucky to be able to get up and walk to the bathroom every hour the first couple of days home and that I 'should' have someone checking on me. Confusing, isn't it? If I go by all the posts here of women my age, it looks like the doctor might get a call to come over and stay with me if she's wrong. LOL

how long hospital stay with TAH???

shespeaks...your post made me chuckle...thanks

It is very confusing who to believe. I know a previous co-worker took the full 12 weeks off, but then we worked with young children, who we were sometimes required to lift. 6 weeks sounds a long time...maybe I can consider part-time after the first few weeks rest, as I sit behind a desk now. I think I am going to go nutz at home that long! Oh well.....I have my Ez-Grabber so if things get really boring I can torment the cats

how long hospital stay with TAH???

My TAH was on a Monday morning and I went home Thursday morning. The doctor offered to discharge me on Wed., but I wasn't up for that, so I stayed an extra day. Good luck to you!

how long hospital stay with TAH???

Maybe they should just put in a "drive-through". Geeeesh. I wonder what criteria they use for "ready to go back to work"? I've heard from others having LAVH that you will feel very tired the first two weeks, and probably could go back to work if it's nothing too strenuous by the fourth week...but I have no idea what to expect either. Guess I will know in a few weeks Hope yours goes well!
