Laparoscopic attempt at adhesions failed!!!

Just had a letter to-day from the gynae. who did a laparoscopy on the first of March to see if he could get rid of adhesions. This is what the op. report said:

There was small bowel and omentum adhered to the anterior abdominal wall just to thr right of the infra-umbilical skin incision.... There were extensive omental adhesions to the anterior abdominal wall on the left and on the upper right part of the abdomen. I attempted to dislodge the small bowel from the pelvis but was unable to do so. In veiw of the extensive adhesions, the procedure stopped there.

I have to see the gynae. Monday to discuss this.Any of you any clues as to what has to happen next? I am scared that he's going to say that I need a laparotomy this will be the third surgery since the hyst. Please can anyone advise?

Take Care,

Ann

Laparoscopic attempt at adhesions failed!!!

Hi,Minty,
Glad that you are home but it will be sore for a few days!! Have you got stitches or clips? I found ( had two stitches) that once they came out everything healed quite quickly.
Sorry that they could not sort you out there and then,we appear to be in the same boat don't we? Went to my apointment on Monday and the gynae. showed me the pictures he took during the lap. He said that he was shocked and that he had not expected to see such a mess. Apparently I need more extensive surgery and he has gone away to show the photo's to a colleague and ask him if he is confident to do it laproscopically, otherwise I need a big incision. Either way he says that the op. will be quite big and take a long time. What are they offering to do for you? This is a pain isn't it,thought the hyst. was enough to put up with without all these issues afterwards. Noticed that you live in England as well so prehaps we could support each other through this?
Anyway take care and get plenty of rest to-day if you can,
Ann

Laparoscopic attempt at adhesions failed!!!

When my gyn did my diagnostic lap in 2002 he told me that he would open me up if he couldn't get the adhesions laprascopically. I woke up with an incision across my belly. I have since had another surgery by a different surgeon who went in laprascopically and was able to lyse the adhesions that way. It really does depend on the skill of the surgeon. I have done pretty well since although I am sure my adhesions are back, but I don't think, at this point, they are as bad and am trying some alternative things. Best wishes to both of you for a pain free life!

Laparoscopic attempt at adhesions failed!!!

Hello
I seem to have a couple of stiches and a nice yellow bruise today. Going to GP for another week off tomorrow.as i feel very uncomfortable and tired still . I know its only supposed to be a minor op but for some reason its really knocked me about .
I'm hoping to see the top gyn in the next few weeks to find out what he recommends as he wasn't at the hospital that day. He did my TAH.
Glad to know i'm not on my own though it felt like it till I started reading this forum. thank goodness i found it.
Have the doctor told you how long you will have to wait for next op?I'm expecting the same answer as as you as far as the surgery goes. The doctor at the hospital said it was too big to do it during the lap.
Had to laugh as my daughter was there at the time and the Doctor was so busy staring at her I had to call him back to go through it again I'm defintalty getting old now that Doctors seem young hope you arn't feeling too bad at the moment and i would like to to give you/recieve any support from you.

Laparoscopic attempt at adhesions failed!!!

Hi, Minty,
So glad that you've posted!!!The bruising is pretty after this isn't it!!! As well you're going to have another week off, think because it's like surgery on top of surgery it takes a while to recover more than if we just had a laparoscopy and that was it.The gynae. that did my hyst. and treated me for infertility ,did lap and that's whats worrying he could not do this and has gone away to consult with a colleague, he said that he would get back to me last Wednesday or Thursday and as I've heard nothing yet I'm fearing the worst. i just hope that this other surgeon feels that he can do it. When do you see the gynae? Hope that he will be able to suggest something positive. The practice nurse said when she took my stitches out that she would not have it done because adhesions come back which was worrying, but another consultant that I have to see for blood pressure said that I must have it done or risk obstruction of the bowel. So it seems as if we're between a 'rock and a hard place' so to speak!! Just have to wait and see what happens I suppose and what the gynae.'s suggest.
Take Care and Keep in Touch,
Ann
