period at time of surgery

what happens if i'm menstuating at the time of my surgery? Mine is scheduled for first week of April, and that's exactly when I'm expecting my period, is there a problem with that? I'm keeping ovaries, I hope this doesn't mess up my cycles

If that's when your period's due, call your doc. Mine wouldn't do the surg at that time. In fact (I found it funny) they gave me a pregancy test just before anesthesia...

It's Okay!

I am an operating room nurse and we see this quite a bit. Most patients are anxious or embarrassed about it but we put their concerns to rest. As a matter of fact, I was on my period the day of my surgery. Thank goodness that is the last one! Hope everything goes well with your surgery.

I've always been told that having your period wouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, I would think that having a procedure such as this is going to mess up your cycles a bit for the next month or so anyway. At least that is how it's always been for me.

Good luck though!

I was hemmoraging (end of 12 day period) when I went in ... had no choice of course, and kept one ovary and cervix ... no problems so far.

I am just finishing up a pretty mild period (go figure) and my surgery is tomorrow morning. The dr just told me that I would wear the mesh hospital panties and a pad while in pre-op. Hugs Raymo

period at time of surgery

I started my period the day before my surgery. No problem.

They gave me a pad to put between my legs before I went into surgery, and that was that. they had me strip down to nothing, just a hospital gown, they kept the pad there until I was under. There was a pad there when i came out of the anesthesia, I don't know if it was the same one or not.

My bleeding/period was non existant when I woke up. Wonderful! No more period! I had TAH, don't know if things are different with a vaginal surgery.

period at time of surgery

My period showed up the day of surgery. When I told doc she just laughed and said "well I guess it won't last long huh". I told her that it was like my uterus was trying to take one last stab at me but luckily it would be its last.
Let your uterus pitch a fit all it wants and just sit back and laugh at it cuz you know it won't be able to do it for long.
