I freaked over THIS?

Thanks for such helpful information. My surgery is scheduled for Wed. April 12th at noon. I want to put together an Easter basket for the nursing staff, but not sure what to include. When and who do I give the basket to? Any ideas out there???? One big basket or several small ones????

I freaked over THIS?

Oooops! I may have been a bit confusing in explaining the PFP (Prime Farting Position)!

The official PCP is to lie with your left side down, right side up, keeping the bed as flat as possible.

You do not need to lie on the right side first. The shoulder pain I referred to in the original post was on the right side. The doctor told me it is very common to experience right shoulder pain after an abdominal surgery due a gas bubble under the right side of the diaphragm. To rid that pain, I was told to lie on the right side. Once that pain was gone, which was within minutes, I was told to lie in the PFP from then on. I didn't know about the PFP until after the shoulder pain.

I didn't want all the postop ladies to be doing flips in their beds unnecessarily! It helps to have a small pillow under your tummy for support while in the PFP.

Every time I sat up in bed, whether to eat, to visit with people, etc, the gas pains would come. As soon as I'd go back to the PFP, the pains would subside and eventually the gas was able to be passed effortlessly.

Please ladies, ettiquette goes out the window with this surgery. Don't feel you need to sit up to greet and entertain any visitors you may have if you are having gas problems. Do what you need to do to feel better. I was taking extra pain meds specifically for the gas pain. I sat up for over an hour while I had visitors and the resultant gas pains were awful. The nurses and the doctor told me walking, walking and more walking as well as lying in the PFP was the key to the gas problems. Of note, I was on symethecone, or Gas-X, 2 x day while in the hospital. Didn't seem to do a thing for me.

I wish you all a gas-free postop!

Resa, just a quickie to wish you a speedy op and recovery. I'm scheduled for 26 April and it cannot come quick enough. You are in my prayers. BTW, 27 March is my older bro's bday! He's finally older than me for yet almost another year LOL! I'm a short distance from you up here in Scottsburg, IN. So maybe we can be Hyster-Buddies or something. ?

I freaked over THIS?

Thanks for the prayers! I'll need them today as I get myself ready for tomorrows trip to the castle. Not knowing what it may look like in there(uterus and stuff) and whether my ovaries will stay or go makes me a nervous wreck. I will write as soon as I am able and tell my story and share anything of importance that may help the other ladies in waiting. So from one hyster buddy to another I wish you well and look forward to talking to you soon.
