Waiting for pet scan results
I was diagnosed with Stage IB uterine cancer 9/04....surgery, radiation, radiation proctitis, rectal ulcer....but all that is better....except a 5.5cm x 6cm mass has been discovered in my right lung...clue being the peristant cough. I have had 2 chest xrays as I was first treated for pneumonia which did not resolve. So then I had the cat scan which revealed the mass. Yesterday I had a pet scan from my "eyes to my thighs"....I am waiting patiently for the results which should come over the computer to my doctor....at any moment, I think. I have called the office just once...so far. I do have/had Grade 3 cells with lower uterine involvement so my concerns are great. Has anyone had a mass ....that is not cancer so close to their cancer diagnosis???? I have googled all the words that I can think of.

Waiting for pet scan results
Dear Joy:
I haven't had a mass like you describe but I want to wish you all the best. I was also diagnosed at1b grade 3 cells earlier this year. I am so sorry you are going through the pneumonia and now this awful waiting. I hope you get the results soon, and most of all I hope they are good ones. Regards, Blue.

Waiting for pet scan results
I had something show up on my lung on CT scan. It was a 3 x 1.8cm. lesion. It was gone by the time I had another CT. The drs. were sure it was cancer but they were wrong. Couldn't pneumonia have something to do with the mass that's showing up? Sure hope so.

Waiting for pet scan results
Dear Joy,
This is truly a stressful situation and I'm so sorry you are going through it.
I have been sick this last week with bronchitis, and I found it provoked a bit of post traumatic stress, bringing back all the feelings from my not too distant cancer diagnosis.
I'm sure it must be similar for you, and then to have the questionable cat scan is excruciating. It really is possible, though, as Cricket said, that this could be just temporary pneumonia related stuff -- it takes a long time to recover from pneumonia. Think of all the health crises, big and small, that have happened to you throughout your life, but before cancer, they didn't all provoke xrays, ct scans and pet scans. So this is MUCH more nerve wracking, but it could just as much nothing as it ever was before.
Good luck and don't forget to let us know what your results are.

Waiting for pet scan results
Dear Sisters,
I do have the results: it has metastacised to my right lung, medium stinum, middle back, lower back and right hip. It is worse news than I could phathom. Biopsies will be scheduled and then a treatment plan prepared. At this point, I will probably go to Dana Farber in Boston for the second opinion and see what they have to offer. I write this between tears and denial. Has anyone else had such a spread as this?

Lance Armstrong comes to mind.
Whew.
I was dumbfounded when I read your latest post and am at a loss for words. What do I write?
Then Lance Armstrong's book, "It's not about the Bike," came to mind. I haven't finished reading it yet but he made a heck of a comeback after his spread.
Keep fighting. There may be a clinical trial that works for you.
You're in my prayers. May you be blessed with Peace that passes understanding.
Hugs,
Kate

Another thought...
Hi, again,
Another thought. I've heard that the place you mentioned is one of the best.
Something you might also consider is getting a copy of the book, "America's Top Doctors for Cancer" A Castle Connolly Guide and calling some of those doctors to see if they will give you some input on things that have worked for their patients.
Maybe one of them has a clinical trial or a chemo that has worked for someone with a similar prognosis. They may have a technique or may be able to concur with one of your options. Second opinion of sorts...
Hang in there.
Hugs,
Kate
