Question--how many stitches

Hi everyone -
I am not trying to offend anyone or seem strange for asking but I read a post a few minutes ago about how many stitches you have inside after a hysterectomy. I am having a SAH/BSO ( lol dont remember what the BSO stands for! ) and being a naturally curious person like I am I was wondering if anyone knows just how many stitches you have after a surgery like mine?
I had breast reduction in 1998 and that was ALOT of stitches.

Thanks and again I hope I didn't offend any of you ladies!

Question--how many stitches

Your question is not offensive IMO. I don't think that anyone really can tell you how many stitches you'll have. I asked my dr that after I had a tah/bso and he said "A LOT ". I think that it differs depending on what all is done.

BSO means Bilateral Salpingo Oopherectomy - both ovaries and tubes are removed.

Best wishes.

Question--how many stitches

Thank you Jean for answering my question!
My dr said she is going to try and keep one of my ovaries. One looked bad when my gall bladder dr did that surgery 3 weeks ago and my gyno dr assisted him. She could see alot of scaring etc so she thinks I will lose one of the ovaries and one tube and keep the other so I won't go into surgical menopause.
Thanks again.

Question--how many stitches

I think the only place ( going by my cesarian 18 years ago ) I think they staple you is the outside incision if you are having an abdominal hsterectomy. Which are you having?
If I am wrong about the staples maybe someone out there will correct me.

Question--how many stitches

The staples are for the exterior incision and it is not scary at all. Of course you are out when they put them in and it doesn't hurt at all when they take them out. I had 18 of them for my 12 inch incision and they were only in for 2 days then removed before I left the hospital and I never had a bit of trouble with the incision sight. I hear we may have 100's of internal stiches depending on what was done but those you will never even know about!!

Question--how many stitches

You will have stitches on the inside, if you have any staples they will be on the outside only!

Question--how many stitches

I didn't know I was going to have staples til the first time the nurse checked me out after I woke up. I had them used on me once before, so it wasn't such a surprise. I had a total of 13 staples.
All I was told regarding stiches was that I had quite a few. I don't know if they even had an accurate count due to all the stitches the doc used trying to save my left ovary. Just wasn't able to save it. The other one seems to be working just fine. Go righty go!!

Question--how many stitches

I had only 10 steri strips on the outside, no staples or stitches for me to see ( now, on the inside I was told there are over a couple hundred stitches). Ask your doctor what is his/her stitching method ususally.
Good luck and I hope your surgery goes well!!
