first treatment today....

Hi everyone,
Well i did it.....I got my first treatment today and guess what! The nurses, who by the way are some of the sweetest men and women I have ever met, Told me that they hardly ever see patients taking my dose of Cisplatin lose all of their hair! THey told me that alot of the patients just have thinning...I'm hoping that I am one of those. I went to they store on the way home and got some really cute scarves just in case. The nurses are so great there...they just keep telling me that they are going to get me through this and to call them anytime even if I just need to talk!( or maybe they feel sorry for me because I was balling like a baby as soon as I sat down in the chair! ) That has made me feel much better because up until now I have felt so alone in this fight, even though my family has been there for me 100% from day one. I just feel like they can't possibly understand what I am going through. But the nurses have seen it all a million times so they are very understanding of all your feelings. And then of course there is this site and all of the wonderful sisters here who have also showed so much love and understanding. Thank you all so much. I guess it was just the fear of the unknown making me feel so overwhelmed lastnight. But you know what? Now that I have talked to the nurses and started my treatments....it's not the unknown anymore! I am just so happy that I am getting this all started now so that I will be feeling better by the holidays! And the nurse told me that cisplatin is actually the metal platinum so my new joke is that I have the most expensive blood in town!

and thanks to all of my special sisters!

P.S. did anyone else get Cisplatin and how did you do with that treatment?

(((Brenda ))))))

My Cisplatin Sister!!!!!
Oh my God....I had tears in my eyes reading your latest post.
What a difference 12 hours makes...you sound WONDERFUL!!!!

I didn't know Cisplatin was from Platinum!!! Wow...I have rich blood now too then !

I had that drug and 2 others...5 days straight every 3 weeks for 4 sessions. I do have numbness in my fingers and toes which is a result of this, but it is improving. Its not painful, just rather annoying. Hopefully you won't experience this with your treatments.

I am so glad to hear you may not lose your hair....it was the combination of the 3 drugs that did it for me I think.

I told ya the nurses were wonderful special people!! I called mine my "chemo angels".
How many treatments are you having Brenda? and how often?

Keep thinking good thoughts...you will do just fine. It is just wonderful to hear or "read" you sounding so much better!
Keep us posted wont' you.

Maria,
I am having Cistiplan with mannitol once a week for six weeks....next to yours mine seems very mild! That gives me even more hope about not losing my hair. Yeah 12 hrs makes a major difference when you are trying to take everything one day at a time! Chemo angels...I like that one...I am going to have to try that one on them next week!

take care and god bless!

Oh Maria:

I'm so glad to see your post and that you're feeling much better about things.

I know what you mean about how great the nurses are. The ones my Dad for his chemo were some of the nicest and most compassionate people I've run into.

Brenda, I wanted to give you another hug and let you know that we are all here for you!! I can only imagine how devastated you are, and I think that having us all to vent, cry or even yell at will really help you. You need to get your emotions out and free yourself of this stress. I will be praying for you dear!!

I'm late to get in on this post, Brenda, and all the sisters have already said it all, but I thought I'd just add my thoughts and prayers for you. My very best wishes for an easy course of treatment--it sounds like you are in good hands!
