Margaret Marie your husband can handle some mood swings. Just apologize to him in advance, and let him know that you are feeling moody and to be patient with you. He can handle it. Best wishes to you.

just found out I have uterine cancer

It's a scary thing when you sit in the Dr. office and are told that you have cancer. That was what they told me at first. My slides were then sent to a large teaching hospital (are we allowed to mention what hospital?) where they reviewed them and decided I had pre-cancer. I still needed a TAH. It was a nerve racking experience. I hope and pray everything goes well for you. What you're going through now is the hardest part. It will get better.
I wish you the best!!

I'm not sure why he wants you to have no hrt. Ovaries make some estrogen even after menopause! Some women have more trouble than others do after surgical menopause, but unless HRT is contraindicated by your cancer (and that would be a question for your doc) I wouldn't see any reason not to try it if you feel like you need it. Just my thoughts --
Good luck to you!

Dear Margaret Marie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Do you know that there is a section of Hystersisters just for those of us who have gone through this? It is called Cancer Concerns, and you are most welcome to post there. There are some mighty fine women who know a lot about gynecologic cancers and who are also very supportive. You can get a lot of your questions answered there.

Many women with stage one endometrial cancer (assuming this is the type of uterine cancer you are referring to) require no further treatment after their hysterectomy. Others go through 6 or so weeks of radiation. I haven't seen anyone with this particular diagnosis have chemo. The survival rate from stage one endometrial cancer is 97% -- that's pretty good, don't you think?

I really, really understand what kind of panic you are in right now. It's shocking on so many levels -- cancer, hysterectomy, all coming at you so fast. You'll get through this, though, and you'll do fine. Be sure to tell your doctor (a gynecologic oncologist, I hope) as many times as you like that you are worried about your veins and blood clots. Believe me, they are experienced in dealing with this.

Furthermore, on the subject of things going very quickly -- it is always highly advisable, in cancer situations, to get a 2nd opinion. You don't have to worry about offending your doctor as this is standard procedure. Try to get an opinion from someone who is not associated with your doctor.

So come one over to Cancer Concerns, Margaret Marie, and ask all the questions you need to. Be sure to ask all the questions you need from your doctor, as well.

Blessings to you in this difficult time.

just found out I have uterine cancer

Hi Margearet. I'm due to have a total hyst on the same day has you. I was told that its 50/50 chance of being uterine cancer. I have to admit I am totally crapping myself about the whole thing. Tomorrow (Sunday) I have to phone the hospital to make sure there is a bed available. If there isnt then I have to wait until there is. This is the way they do it in the UK. Crazy I know! This website has really helped a lot just by reading other womens experiences. I hope you get the same from it. I wish you all the best for Monday. Maybe we can get together online for a chinwag after all this is over...take care.....Jean
