Doctor called about abnormal pap smear...

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and prayers! Elena,
I'll be thinking of you next Thursday. I also use the Premarin cream and have been since my hyst last June. I've also had 2 colposcopies (both before my surgery). They aren't bad at all. A little discomfort, but nothing unbearable by any means. It's just a big telescope that allows the Dr. to better evaluate and see what's going on way up in the cervix -or in our case-the vagina. He'll most likely take a few biopsies while there. Keep in touch and try not to worry.

Confussed

Hi,I am confussed ,Do you mean that even after a Hysterectomy is done that I have to worry that the reason the hysterectomy was done can still cause problems? Sorry to sound stupid but I was hoping that now my hyst,is done and am on the road to recovery These problems would be gone?

Doctor called about abnormal pap smear...

Hi Rhonda,
Sorry to say, Yes you definitely have to have regular paps. They're called "vault smears" and are done the same as cerival paps except that the sample is from the upper portion of the vagina. My doctor told me that there's always the chance that the "bad" cells can show up in the vagina. In my case, they have. I'll have my repeat pap today in fact. It's been 1 year since my hyst and 3 months since my abnormal pap. Hopefully today's will come back normal. Please read Robyn's posts on this board. Although her case is rare, it does happen, so please be sure to continue to be checked!! Take care and I'll post when I get the results of today's check!

I am still up in the air about a hysterectomy, so don't know about that yet. As far as the colp procedure goes I can tell you they use a tool similar to an ice cream scoop(no kidding-actually the scoop comes out of a piece that looks amazingly like the queen alien from the movie Aliens)-they take tiny little round samples for biopsy. I don't know if you will experience the same cramping I did during the procedure since mine was on my cervix not the v-wall. But my colp hurt more than the ckc biopsy did. Of course I was asleep during the ckc!
My thoughts, prayers and positive thinking are with you.

Colposcopy Results

Hi Everyone!!

Just wanted to let you all know that I had my colposcopy done today, around noon, and it was not bad at all. The procedure was just a little bit uncomfortable, and my doctor used acetic acid inside my vagina. I do not have a cervix. He said there were no lesions, and everything looked fine, except I have degenerative changes in my vaginal cells from not having enough estrogen. I do take Premarin .9mg for eight years now, and he has kept that the same. He wants me to continue using the Premarin cream twice a week for a couple of months and then once a week until I see him next April or May.

He said other than that, everything was fine! So, I feel better now. I told him I have to wear a small pad all the time, because of bladder leakage, and he said, if the estrogen builds up the tissues in the vagina, then my vaginal wall will better support my bladder and cause less urgency to go all the time. Do any of you have that problem? I consider that miniscule, though, compared to what a lot of the sisters on our site have been through. God bless their hearts!!!

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers, and I hope that Christy will be posting here, unless I may have missed a post from her elsewhere. I will take a look.

God bless you all!

Doctor called about abnormal pap smear...

Hi Eleana and all!
Good to hear your colposcopy went well and you got GREAT news! My pap on Wed. actually was VERY painful. I about came out of my skin. I've never had any pain before like that, even with Coops. But he said he wanted to get inside the "crack" (anybody know where that might be?) because that's where these bad cells can show up and he couldn't see up there very well. Anyway, It took some time and hurt like ----! He saw a yeast infection and a bacterial infection and changed the Premarin (because that burns when I use it -has alcohol in it). Hopefully all will be well, but if not, he said he'd have to do a colposcopy. No HPV virus, but herpes- which can contribute to abnormal paps he said. Didn't ask if it could contribute to cancer too. I've read that it can. So now the waiting again for these results. I'm counting a good report though!! Glad you're OK Elena!

Hi Everyone! :)

Thank you all for your wonderful wishes and prayers! Now, I just hope everything stays well for me, as my husband has tons of medical problems, and that pretty much keeps me quite busy! You all take care, and hope everyone is having a good summer!

Hope your pap smear will be fine, Christy! Let us know! Sorry that you had so much pain, though. Just never know with those things!

Thanks Robyn, Maria, and Cyd!!! You are all truly God's saints!!! Always so very supportive to those of us here who seem to have so many different problems!! God bless you and keep you all safe and healthy!

HUGS!!!
