Hi Carrie. What type of surgery did you have. Did you keep your ovaries??? If not, are you on HRT???

The first couple of weeks after surgery is the worst....we're here for you!!!

new post-op hysterectomy

Thanks for replying!

Along with my hysterectomy, they took my ovaries as well. Dr. had a patch placed on me very soon after surgery.......estrogen. Am a real "newbie" to all of this. I am not the standard case. I have been married for 20 yrs.........have never been able to conceive. I have had problems in the last two years with feeling really crappy and bleeding abnormally........not in vast amounts.........just often.

I was recently diagnosed with uterine fibroids.....had two the size of baseballs. I lost my Mom to uterine cancer when I was 19..........turned out she had not had a paps smear since I was born........sad. Nonetheless, was enough to make me ask what questions seemed necessary and move ahead with what was necessary.

Being sort of young, I am confused about the hot flashes......jeez........was almost like a sunburn or windburn on my face.

I just feel like I need to know that things are ok.........that what I am feeling is not obscure.

Thanks for your time!

I think you are on the right track here. You did recieved the patches. Give it little time to make this work. If you are still feeling severe hot flashes, maybe you need an increase dosage. I am using the patch myself. Just keep yourself cool as heat triggers it. For example, bon fire, wood furnance, hot temperature outside, etc. I have had both of my ovaries removed and had not problems with hot flashes. Maybe once or twice when I go to stock in the wood into the stove and when the room was little too hot. that was about it. Nothing major. I hope this gives you an idea of what you need or maybe you need to ask more. That is what we are here for, to give you support and some ideas how to help yourself. We are no doctors but our experience has taught us a lot.

Hugs to you,

Carrie - I agree with 4bears...give it a little more time. I had tah/bso March I'm a little over a year post op. It takes awhile sometimes to see if HRT is right for you. I had patch put on the day after surgery (believe it was the 3 day patch)...but opted to start taking estrogen pills once I got home. How often are you supposed to replace patch???

The first couple of weeks has it's ups and doubt about that. Sometimes it's from HRT...but other times is just our bodies adjusting from major surgery. I had headaches and got hot some soon after surgery..and used a cool wash cloth on my face for awhile...that seemed to help.

If you continue to have hot flashes...give your gyn. a call...he/she may choose to adjust your HRT...that may help.
