Wondering about bowel prep, etc.

itstime yes, my pre-op is Tuesday and I think this is too soon prior to hyst. Not enough time prior to hyst. to prepare & I have so many questions. Hope you are feeling well and recovery is progressing.

Wondering about bowel prep, etc.

I don't have a pre-op appointment...they have called me on the phone several times with tons of questions...hospital and doctor's office. However, they told me to be at the hospital 2 hours early...guess that is when I will visit with the doctor and such....and OMG do I pity the man...I will be without coffee or my nicotine...hope he is a strong, strong man!

You guys are really helping with my *jitters* - thanks SO much!!!!

I don't understand why you don't have a pr-op appt. w/you dr. I was told to be at the hospital 2 hrs. early for op. prep. Call your dr. on Tues. to get a pre-op appt. or at least talk with his nurse. My prayers are with you.

Hmmm..now I wonder. What goes on at the pre-op appointment? Is it just general conversation about what will take place, etc??? :::worrying now if they forgot::::: LOL - not.

loans, they will not release you from the hospital alone. I had to sign a document stating I would have someone drive me home & be with me for 24 hours. You cannot drive & you can't trust a cabdriver to get you home safely & not rip you off. I hope you can reach someone for help today, with it being a holiday & all.

Dfed, the pre-op at the doc is the time to answer all your questions, explain the procedure, make sure you are comfortable with your decision, etc. Don't be scared of pre-op at all. (I know, easier said than done.) At the hospital pre-op they take your blood, explain the breathing exercise toy, ask you about durable power of attorney & advance directive, ask about previous surgeries, allergies, etc. They listened to my heart & lungs, took blood pressure & temp at both doc & hospital. I've read some ladies get EKG's or something like that, but I did not have that done. They sent me home with my hospital bracelet to wear in, if I lose it they will have to draw my blood again. They also sent me home with a copy of patient rights & responsibilities, a pamphlet about the pain scale, legal documents, directions on where to go surgery day & instructions about eating/drinking.

I have a ride to and from the hospital but will stay by myself when I come home. I just don't know anyone who would stay with me. Appreciate the pre-op info. I have mine tomorrow morning. Take care of yourself.

loans, call the hospital (hopefully someone is there today) & ask if you can have a home-aide the first 24 hours. It may be covered by your insurance. I'm sure no one is at the ins co today. It is very important that first 24 hours to have someone keep an eye on you. Good luck hun.

Dfed, I just now noticed your post about not having a pre-op. WEIRD. I've always had a pre-op before every surgery I've ever had. And they always have you show up a couple hours early the day of surgery to prep you for surgery. This is very shocking to me because they are supposed to make sure your body is in good enough condition to go through surgery, make sure you aren't pregnant, etc. Definitely get on the phone, not that anyone will call you back today with the holiday, but get that ball rolling, so the message is there for them first thing tomorrow morning.

A little suggestion and well ok a promotion LOL. I work for a place called comfort keepers, they are in many states. they are cheaper than In home health care. They usually bill for the services at the end of the month. We do light housekeeping, drive you to appointments, meal preparation, laundry, help with bathing. It is non-medical care so the price is generally cheaper and most insurances allow it. I believe the website is www.comfortkeepers.com
