Pre cancerous cells in left ovary

I am 7 weeks post opp (tah/blo) to treat fibroids, endometriosis and small ovarian cyst. I have been told that as a result of the biopsey, some precancerous cells were found in my left ovary.

The ovary had appeared OK to the surgeon when it was removed and he expressed surprise at the result. The results of the biopsey are being passed an oncolgyst at the hospital.

Why is the surgeon worried as both ovaries have been removed and everything else was OK? Might I need further treatment? Can anything have been missed?

I am 41 and have no children after 12 years of IVF and related infertility treatments.

Maybe his concern is more that he didn't catch it himself?

He is probably making sure the cells are precancerous cells and that nothing further is needed.

Your Dr. is looking out for you by having the cells looked at by a specialist and getting the opinion of a specialist.

This is surely a scarey time for you. Let us know what you find out.

I agree with jmberg. Onc should always be consulted if cancer is suspected, or in your case, precancerous cells are found. They are the experts.

Having said that, I know how scarey it all is. I had a cyst drained durring a lap procedure that cancer cells were found in. My dr was shocked also. From the day the dr got the pathology back on the cyst fluid, he was consulting with a gyn/onc. Although it is upsetting to hear your dr is doing what is best for you.

In my case the cells were in the cyst fluid. The ovary HAD to be removed. The ovary tissue came back benign.

The women on the Cancer Concern board helped me thru my experience. They are very supportive. I would post your concerns there also. They will stay with you every step of the way.

Good luck and keep us updated.
