If you leave your ovaries can eggs be used later?

So my husband surprised me with this question today and while I will ask my doc at my pre-op appt. I was wondering if anyone knows. Are your eggs viable for harvest at a later date if your ovaries continue to function after your hyst? Always something to ask and thanks for anyone who knows from this 27 without kids!

I don't know from experience, but from what I've heard in the past, your eggs are all made in the beginning of puberty, so I would think there would still be eggs in there. The ovaries just release one each month, that's why it seems that they are making them as you go. You might want to ask your doctor about freezing the eggs or whatever to have them for later use.

I don't know for sure, but it does sound possible to me. Asking your dr is a good idea

The blood supply to the ovaries can be interupted during a hyst leading to damage or even death of the ovary. If this is truly an option you want to consider, ask your doctor about forcing some eggs to maturity prior to your surgery and harvesting them and freezing them now for later use. It would also avoid another surgery down the road to harvest them. Good luck.
