TVH-What To Get From Hyster Store?

Had my TVH on Wednesday and I learned some must-haves to take to the castle from some of the ladies here and some from my own trial and error. Lip Balm is a must to pack-also I had my mom bring up some herbal throat drops when she came to visit. The anesthesia, breathing tube, dry hospital air made my throat dry and I had a terrible case of cotton mouth. All I got to eat/drink for 24 hours was ices chips. Once I had the throat drops I was in heaven. Also brought Lysol sanitizing wipes (as others here suggested) and my husband and mom wiped down the nurse call/tv remote while I was waking up, rails of my bed, etc. and I just felt clean! I also brought foot cream (or a heavy lotion) and as I could, I just coated my skin since I felt so dry. Once home, I have had all my creature comforts and I am much happier. Take care and all my best to you-you will do great!!!

those are great ideas above... I wish I wouldve remembered the lip balm.
By all means remember the stool softeners too. And good fiber foods, do NOT let yourself get constipated, I did and I was miserable and I think that was the worst part of the whole surgery....
Good luck and big hugs to you!

Spiritmaiden. Your trip to the castle is on my birthday! Had to wish you a easy trip to the and a smooth recovery.

You may want your pillow, bottled water and crackers that are not salty (wheat thins). I got tired of the apple juices and sugary sprite fast. Be sure if you are coffee drinker to have a cup in the am or you will get the caffine headache!

I also brought my own pads...they use very bulky ones in the hospital and I was much more comfortable with my own. Also I brought my own larger sized undies and then continues to used them during my home recovery after coming home. I ws in the hospital three days...and it felt so much better, but i did use their stuff the first day while packing was in and all. Lying on the left side helps with gas...but it also jsut takes time. IT took weeks for me to get past this and I was not constipated but for th efirst week since I went off pain meds after five days, and used a heating pad for back pain which did persist. My DR warned me about the vack pain , so we bought a heating pad. It saved the day for me.Well wishes to all!
