wondering....

What should i do? or not? My doctor released me the following day after my TVH last Thursday. I was sent home with 5 bottles of medicine (pain, stool softner etc...) and told don't lift anything-- call me in 4 weeks. That's it. How do I know what I can and can't do?(driving, baths, chores) My husband was told he has to go back to work(he's soldier and will be gone for 30 days training) in a week. Will I be able to care for our 3 kids? The emotions are running high and I feel like crap. I have always been a strong military wife making sure his career came first and foremost--but this time, I'm not feeling that way. Any words to help me through? Thanks

A good place to start is by reading the checkpoints on this site. I also highly recomend getting dh to make up some freezer meals for once he's gone (there are some great recipes in the Cookbook Forum). I think you should be able to care for your children...it's a tough call without knowing how old they are. Mine was 18 mths old and I was able to completely care for him after 3 weeks. If your children are older this is the time for them to help you out. Are there any friends or neighbors that could drop by in the evenings for the first few weeks to help out with the stuff you can't do (like vacuuming, stooping to pick up the floor, grocery shopping, errand running)? You should not drive while you are on pain medicine and I found it was harder on me than I thought. Good luck and remember to rest...Overdoing it can lead to more problems down the road.

First of all bj {{{{{{BIG HUGS}}}}}. I was told I could drive after 2 weeks from a TAH/BSO. I would call the docs office and ask to speak to the nurse and discuss it with her. At my 1 week follow up - I was told short walks, nothing out in th eheat of the day, no vacumning, no sex, nothing streneous. I know some of this is because I have a long incesion<sp?> that has to heal. There is a guideline on this site you may want to read through also. Here is the link: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/view.php?s=&pg=postop

And thanks for being a military wife. I appreciate your family.

Thank you

I sitting here crying my eyes out ( and making the cramping even worse). If it weren't for this message board I would be sooooo lost. My Mom lives a day away and she has my kids (6,7,&10) with her but my husband will have to get them early from their vacation because he leaves soon. I can't imagine trying to drive from TX to NC in 2 weeks!!hahaha I feel so abandoned. I called our family doctor and left a message so hopefully she will call back and ease my concerns and answer questions. My GYN is busy and will return my call in 72 working hours!! Gotta love the military-that which does not kill us, makes us stronger. thanks again

Perhaps you can find a local chapter of Moms Offering Moms Support, you can find them on the web. I'm sure they would help you through this. I have met some really great women through this organization. Also, maybe a member of your church would be willing to help out or a neighbor. Please don't hesitate to ask for help. Remember your 10yo will be a great asset to you and bribery works wonders!
As for driving in two weeks...I would recommend using a rolled up towel over your incision and under the seatbelt, if you must drive. I hope things get better, if I were closer I would totally help out.
