pre-op personal hygeine questions

I would like to know what I am and am not allowed to do prior to my surgery. I have heard that you shouldn't shave yourself because the doctors have a particular way that they want it done. I have also heard that you bleed afterwards and you need to wear pads. Do you bleed a lot or just a little spotting. Do I need the big overnight pads or just thin ones. Can I wear any products before my suregery such as lotion, deoderant, facial products like moisturizer? I don't want to do anything really as far as getting ready to go since I will look horrible afterwards anyway. But simple things like moisturizer, deoderant, and eye cream will make me at least feel better. Can I at least do that?

pre-op personal hygeine questions

Well, I went ot your profile to see what you are having done and it is listed as N/A, so answering will be based just on my procedure, my castle and my experience (for what that is worth!!). I had a TVH. I received a call from a person (admitting, perhaps??) from the castle 2 days prior. She answered all questions becase it is different castle to castle. I was: able to wear deodorant, lotion, facial moisturizer, was not to shave myself (I woke up to just a little trim rather than full shave), was able to have my cute hawaiian flower pedicure. I was in just 1 night, had a catheter and an iv, so wore their gown, because I was not unhooked enough to change until I was ready to bust out. Make certain to check the info on this site on what to take. Invaluable!! Blessings to you!

I am having a TVH also unless they can't so it for some reason. They won't know for sure until they put me to sleep.

pre-op personal hygeine questions

Aaaah! SAME with me. I had a 50/50 chance and was thrilled to wake up with NO external incisions. My 1 hour TVH took 3 hours because my doc (brilliant woman) was persistant and knew what I wished. I gave her my pref, but told her to do what was best. Many doc's would have given up and just cut me. God bless her!! I have positively sailed through and 2 weeks (and a half!) out-I am doing fabulous! Super bored (that's a good sign!) but terrific. I wish the same for you!!

pre-op personal hygeine questions

Hi,

I didnt have to shave, and also didnt get shaved during surgery. I did the first night however bleed some, however the next day by time I went home was just spotting and after that it quit. I did spot for a week afterwards if I did more then I should have. However as soon as I rested, the spotting stopped.
I showered the morning of and used my deorderant, however I didnt put on makeup or do my hair. (I figured going in that early in the AM no one would see me anyways. LOL)
I didnt feel like doing the facial stuff after surgery and went home the next day... so I did brush my teeth, however I waited til I was home to shower and freshen up. (Like my own shower and bathroom)
I was too tired, dizzy from the pain meds, etc to feel like doing much of anything after surgery. I got the itch real bad from the morphine and had to have some benedryl put in my IV to help with that, then got nauseated and had to have meds for that too! Luckily the next day I felt pretty good, with the exception I did get sick on the ride home. I think the car ride was horrible.... thank God I didnt live too far.
I think most things you have asked depends on your doctor and your individual surgery you will be having. You will find that most people have different stories to tell.
Big hugs and happy healing,
Lisa
