leiomyosarcoma and chemo questions

Hi Ladies

I am fairly new to this site, and am hoping you can help with a couple of questions.

I am 5 weeks post-op today (stah, bso, omentectomy). Also a very large fibroid was removed along with peritoneal nodules. Lab report came back that it was leiomyosarcoma. My consultant said everything able to be seen by human eye was removed, but he wants me to have chemo (6 courses) starting next thursday.

Heres my questions

Is it safe to take iron tablets whilst awaiting chemo

does anyone else have leiomyosarcoma

how soon after starting chemo can i expect to start losing my hair

can you recommend anywhere online for wigs etc for young styles

Sorry to bombard you with questions but my head is spinning right now.

Take care

Thread

Hi, Tilly,
There was a recent thread (Here's the link:https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...leiomyosarcoma )
where a Hystersister named Marve wrote that she had that type of cancer. You can private message her if she doesn't come along to answer your question here.

Another lady, Luvcats, also wrote in this thread that she has it:
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...leiomyosarcoma

To private message them, go to one of their posts and click on their name or their avitar. It will open a window with information about them and on the right side of the screen you'll be given the option to private message them.

Another way to pm them would be to go up to the word "private message" in the upper right corner. Click to open and then go to "send new message." Type the name of whomever you wish to pm.

There is a thread on this board about wigs that was active a week or so ago. If you go to the search box (in the upper right hand corner of this screen and type in "wigs" it will bring up that thread.

Sorry I can't be of any help but this should get you started if the other two ladies don't see your post and answer.

Other ladies who have had chemo will probably be along later, too.

Wishing you the best.
Kate

leiomyosarcoma

Hi Tilly, A friend of mine has leiomyosarcoma. I found an online support group for people with this particular kind of cancer. It's quite rare and you might be able to benefit from the advise/comfort of those who also have it. If you would like me to connect you with my friend, I will; just PM me. You take care!!!

leiomyosarcoma

Hi Tilly,

I see that Kate has already given you some good info.
I thought I would drop in as well and put in my two cents. I am really challenged in regards to putting web sites in these posts...so you may have to cut and paste the sites into your browser instead of just clicking on them. Sorry about that!!!

I see that you are in the UK so I found what looks like a good resource there? And, I think the other site ( if you look carefully) provides access to an on-line support group for people with leiomyosarcoma. If you can't find it there, I am pretty sure there is one connected with 'Yahoo' .... you could do a search. Hopefully, you will be able to connect with others who have also been diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma.

Good Luck, and best wishes...

leiomyosarcoma

Sorry you had to join this little group with the unusual cancer!
I too had LMS but I was fortunate in that mine was caught early and so far (knocking wood madly) I have needed no other treatment.
I would be real hesitant about jumping into a chemo right away. I strongly suggest that you do some research and get a second opinion from someone who has dealt with this particular cancer. Sarcomas are different and need to be treated differently, so you need someone with experience.
The information in the first website Diane cited is good and there is a good Yahoo group -LMSarcoma as well.
Best of luck and stay strong!
