I am scheduled for a TAH on 7/20. They are taking everything, including the ovaries. Because of a history of breast cancer (10/03), I won't be able to take HRT. What do I expect? What can I do?

Not everyone has all those symptoms after this surgery. I am 18 mos out and nothing yet. My Dr chkd my hormones and they are low but not enough to cause hot flashes and whatever else you get from that. Hopefully you just breeze through. My Dr claims I will probably go into actual menopause a few yrs earlier than I would have naturally- we'll see what happens...

I am 7 weeks post op and so far have not had any menopausal symptoms except some difficulty sleeping (and this is getting better too!).
Don't worry Remember everyone is different, and its important to speak with your doctor regarding the right treatment for you

Good luck!

Well, Im like you. My breast cancer was last year...last August in fact. My TAH was 22 June of this year. So....as Im assuming yours was, my breast Ca was estrogen receptor positive..so, thats right, no hormone replacement . Not only no hormone replacement, but no estrogen mimicers either...no black kohosh, no soy etc etc...So far, Im having hot flashes occasionally. Ive also noticed sleep and mood changes...not pleasant. I keep wondering if these menopause indicators will get worse, or maybe stay like this or who knows?? Anyway, here's to us, being brave and doing what we have to do to get healthy again....stay active, eat well, and go into this whole thing with lots of positive imagery ! I wish you well!

I had a TAH BOS on 6/27 and will not be using HRT due to breast cancer in my family. I guess that we take it one day at a time and handle it the best we can. It seems everyone says it can be different for each of us. I have had hot flashes since surgery but I was having them before surgery too. They are alittle more often now. So far that is it for me. Good Luck to you on the 20th and the days that follow! Remember to pamper yourself!
