Will I ever dance with NED?

I just got back from my follow up with the radiation oncologist. Although my bleeding has stopped and I'm just starting to get my bowels in gear, the MRI shows no change in tumors. If anything I also have some free fluids and more peritoneal plantings.

I just about lost it today -I really have had enough of chemo and radiation. The radiation oncologist asked when I'd be seeing the chemo doctor -I told her about my PET/CT on the 31st and that the chemo doctor would be away until the 14th of August. I have my appt wth him the 15th of August.

She basicallt told me that it's the chemo doctors call but she believes I'll need more chemo. I just want a break and told her so ....she told me I could try that approach since building up my strength and immune system is helpful when doing chemo.

Mu dh thinks I'm nuts not to continue chemo but I told him I just need a break for a while -I guess I'll wait and see what the chemo dr says in August.

But I'm just so disappointed with the results - I expected the tumors to be smller or gone. When will this all end?

Oh Maxime s
I can feel your frustration in your post. I wish I could reach through this screen to give you a hug.

I don't blame you one bit for wanting a break from all of this. It is a month until your appointment, take some time for yourself during this month.

Will I ever dance with NED?

Hi Maxime,
If it is any consolation, I know exactly how you are feeling.
Next Wednesday will my 6th chemo of carboplatin. If my numbers do not go down I know that I am going to freak out also.
I also need a break from the chemo and need to clear my head.
Hang in there with me. NED and NERD are still waiting for us. They are very patient.

Well, it seems that the radiation has been doing some of what was intended in getting the bleeding controlled. That's great.

I can certainly understand that you just want to be done with all this. Hang in there, Maxime, and God bless.

Maxime, many of us can understand what you mean. Sometimes it just gets to be too much. Our bodies are being radiated or drugged and we feel awful and worse than awful. Things stand still or go backward. And you could just scream, if only you had the strength to. A break can be possible and does wonders for the mind. It gives the body a chance to rest. It gets us time to be somewhat normal.
Let me tell you, last week I felt so lousy after the third of three weeks of Gemzar I was ready to say "this is it. I stop." Now this is my week off and I feel much better and know I can go on. This week off is my saving moment. I don't feel sick. I can handle another round of this stuff. You are in a spot many of us have been in or are in now. Just keep hanging in there.

Mazime,
I'm so sorry. So disappointing. I completely understand your feeling. If the chemo is not working, why continue it? How many treatments of your current chemo have you had? Some chemos take several treatments to show any effects. But I'm sure you know that.

Since you have to wait a month to see your medical oncologist, can you see a different oncologist in the meantime, for a second opionion? Could you go to one of the big cancer centers, like M.D. Anderson, or Sloan? I know that Anderson also does phone consultations, after reviewing your records. What does your gyn/oncologist think? Does he think you should do more chemo or more radiation, or both?

Why does your dh think you are nuts to take a break? Does he think that this chemo will work if you give it more time?

If you decide to take a month off, enjoy your break! Relax and do whatever the heck you feel like doing! You deserve some pampering!

Love and hugs,
Janie
