Grocery shopping: what should I buy?

My surgery is tomorrow and I am going to go to the store tonight and get a few groceries. I don't really know what to expect with recovery ... will I be able to eat normal foods, or should I be focusing on a liquid diet? What about natural laxative foods to make bowel movements easier - any idea for that? What types of comfort foods made you feel good?

I craved protien, like red meat, and gummy bears. You'll want to avoid anything that causes you gas. I like the crunchy oatmeal cookies too. And MILK! I've drank more milk in the past 6 weeks than I have in years.

Grocery shopping: what should I buy?

glow.gal:

I read another post on here where someone stated that they had stocked up on sugar free pudding for her comfort food.

My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday, and I plan on stocking up on yogurt, Jell-O, pudding and saltines, because if the meds make me nauseated, I know that these items will help to sooth my tummy.

I will be thinking of you and wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery.

Please let us know how you are doing when you are feeling better.

Grocery shopping: what should I buy?

I bought several frozen dinners and made some other meals, too: chicken-vegetable soup, wonton soup, chili.

However, what I am eating since I've been home: popsickles, creamsickles, salads, toast, scones, creamy chicken soup, mashed potatoes, apples, PB&J.

Don't forget fresh fruit (Grapes, Cherry's, plumbs etc) to naturally help prevent constipation. Also cranberry juice to help prevent UTI.

Good luck to you!

And do yourself the favor and pick up a few pairs of granny panties while you're out. Two sizes bigger than normal. It hurts to have anything rubbing up against you for a couple of weeks. Granny panties saved me!

Grocery shopping: what should I buy?

popscicles, hard candy, pudding, salads, fresh fruit, canned fruit, rasins, dried fruit ( see a trend here <grin>), frozen meals, snacks.

anything that is easy to fix and strikes your fancy. pick up a few soups just in case your tummy has a problem.

I had no problem with food-and for some reason all of a sudden I really like brocolli-not a good idea after surgery!! LOL learned that the hard way
