Hello,
I'm new here. 34 years old and 3 girls. I have had an ablation that didn't help me out. Scheduled for a Hysterectomy August 14th. It will be a vaginal one.
How many have had vaginal hysterectomy's and did they end up being a adominal one? I've been trying to find information so I can prepare for recovery etc. I keep reading on adominal ones not alot out there on vaginal unless I'm looking in the wrong places. Help!!!

Newbee with questions

Hi

I had a TVH and it was not painful at all. I had a rectocele repair along with it, and that was the painful part.

If you have a TVH it still is important to rest and no lifting or pushing for at least 6 weeks. I went back to work at 6 weeks to a sit down job, but I was tired for a few weeks more.

I was released to drive at around 3 weeks and no bath for 6 weeks, shower only.

I had my surgery on a Wed. and went home Fri. after noon early. My DH was home with me Fri.-Sunday and he went back to work Monday. I have grown kids so I did not have to worry about help. I did just fine on my own in the day and at night DH fixed dinner and helped out around the house.

It sounds like you will need help regardless of what type of surgery you have , as you have children at home still.

You can see more threads on vaginal hysterectomies if you do a Search (upper right hand corner top of the page).

Here is a link to a thread I pulled up:

I hope this helps you some.

Hi NickiQ,

You might ask your Dr. what his/her ~conversion~ rate is from a vaginal to an abdominal hyst. Usually a Dr. can give it to you in a (%) or in the number of surgeries in the last few years.

Best wishes,

Mary
