Got my surgery date, now I'm scared again

Hi ladies, gyn's office called me @ work and said 8-25-06 is the day, 2:30pm is the tenative time ( I hate not eating or drinking all day ) The plan is to do a exploratory(sp?) lap with possible laporotomy(sp?) & possible rt ovary removal, that's what they told the insurance co. Doc say's he is expecting to run into lot's of adhesions and if so he would prefer to do the incision to clean me up. They still don't have the results from the discharge sample they took from my breast (rt side) but he started me on an antibotic "just to be safe" I have so many mixed emotions over this surgery more than I had with the hyst and I don't know, nor do I understand why. Doc say's if he finds endo again the ovary is out!
This couldn't happen at a worst time, my sister found out she has endometrial adenocarcinoma and her hyst is the day before my surgery at the same hospital (maybe if I have to stay we can be roomates ) I feel like I should be there for her and I won't be able to. I tried to put my surgery off for a while, but doc said he would rather I not wait and let the pain get worse.
I'm scared and nervous kind of acting like I've never done this before. DH is acting like a total poop about it. He won't even be at the hospital with me. I will be driving myself so I can go see my sister before hand and my mom or my GF will be picking me up (if I don't have to stay) DH says he and his buddy will get my truck later that evening.
I'm sorry this is so long, but I guess I "really" needed to vent. Thanks for listening..Much love and a big to all.

Got my surgery date, now I'm scared again

I can understand you feeling overwhelmed! I had my BSO at a terrible time. I had just begun a new job, hubby's job is crazy right now, etc! Well, if the do have to do a laparotomy, it would be great to room with your sister.

I know I was much more nervous w/the BSO than I was with the TVH! But I must tell you I feel so much better, and it hasn't been 2 weeks yet and it was a laparotomy. This is the best I've felt in at least six months physically, and emotionally (so far) I've felt better than I have since puberty!

Good luck to you and your sister!

Got my surgery date, now I'm scared again

tommys:
That is so weird - i just read your post, am coming back to the site - looking for the same support and info i got during hyster. etc last year (TG) : and i am going thru the SAME thing - back for ovary removal. and my DH is acting this time like - "I told you so - you'd have to go back and get it out- shoulda done it last time." (hmph) was trying to save what i COULD - "trying" being the operative word here haha - and i think i might just go by myself this time. Is third surgery and am jsut tired of it all - period !!! Just posted a whole vent in ooph mssg board. Really didnt want last ovary out - NOW am jsut fed up with whole thing and tired of pain - endo etc - hate the endo Good Luck ! You will be fine!!! I am prob. looking at an 8/25 or close date also - and hope your sister is well - and is great you'll be there together!!!

Thanks Jenn

Jenn, thanks for your post, although on this site one know's she's not alone, but it's always helpful to meet someone going through the same thing at the same time. I know my DH won't be there, after the way he acted when I had my gallbladder out in April I asked that he stay home this time.
I got the paperwork from the gyns office yesterday and I go for pre testing on the 18th and surgery will be at 2:00pm on the 25th I have to be at the castle ( I prefer not to use the "H" word ) at noon so the neighbor is going to drop me off about an hour early so I can visit with my sis for a while and the my mom will be there before I go into the OR. My neighbor is a former surgery nurse and when I showed her the paper work she said not to plan on going home that day, that eventhough my gyn is starting out with a lap to look around he is not a big fan of fixing the problem through the lap. That's the part that scares me every surgery I have ever had (and there have been numerous) has been done through a lap. I have no clue what to expect as far as pain and recovery time if he does the incision.
Look at me I just wanted to reply to say thank you and wish you luck and I start rambeling on. I'm sorry. Please pm me if you want to talk and good luck to you.

Got my surgery date, now I'm scared again

As far as my experience regarding a full bikini incision (when I was expecting a lap!), the first few days were very painful. I had an epidural (which is WONDERFUL) and general. Unfortunately the epidural came out since I reacted to something by being itchy, so I didn't get the full effects.

After I came home on Sat. AM (surgery was on a Thursday), I had a few more days of pain. My worse pain oddly was in my inner thigh when I tried to move my leg. After a week I felt quite well, although taking it slow. I went back to work at my sit down job 12 days post op. Wisest decision, probably not, but it worked for me.

At this point I have begun doing more normal things such as driving and light vacuuming. I have been trying to be careful not to pick up anything over 5 pounds, but my pug is 12 1/2 and I have to carry her outside to potty! At this point I may be dealing with an infection, I have an apt tomorrow, but I still feel good!

Although the pain was intense the first several days, the relief I have now made it well worth it. I hope that helps, I had no idea what it would be like before doing it!

Got my surgery date, now I'm scared again

I went in expecting a lap to remove my ovaries and ended up with a laprotomy because of dense adhesions. I was not prepared for it, I didn't take a bag with me to the hospital, all I had with me was my dh. I do recommend being prepared, I think that would make it easier for you. I am sorry your dh's are not being very cooperative while you go thru this. I don't think they realize that we make the best decisions that we can at the time, no one knows how their ovaries are going to be after a hyst. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. Keep us posted. Lots of s, Carol
