Hospital Costs

I was reading in a post a few days ago about the cost of a hysterectomy. Incredible!!! I was telling hubby about it but couldn't remember amounts. I have insurance coverage but am heartsick for the ones that don't. I am hoping you all win the lottery soon. Could you brief me again on the costs? Hope everyone is in the pink and being pampered.

My goodness-I was in the hospital 12 days! I had my hysterectomy and then a week later had to be operated on again-my sutures inside had let go. I was coughing in the recovery room the first time and the wretching did it. I don't mean to sound stupid but TAH is that a total abdominal hysterectomy? If it is that is what I had as well-everything out.

Hi bonsud
The cost really is incredible. We who have good insurance are very blessed. Because of all the medical I had already put out that year mine didn't cost me a thing, as was true of some others I have seen.
I saw your post and moved it down here to post op. I think you are more likely to hear from some of these ladies who were discussing this.
There was a thread recently you might have seen on the subject. Here is the link. https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...d.php?t=265414 .

I pray for those without insurance. Mine was $19,989.00 and cost me $300.00 for hospital stay, all other bills were covered fully by insurance. I guess without insurance I would still be suffering. I am blessed.

Hospital Costs

I was in the hospital 2 days - $40,500 for hospital, drug/pharmacy, anesthesia, etc. and $5,575 for my doc fees. So a grand total of $46,000 for a TAH with 2 days in the hospital. Unbelievable! So far my cost is $500. I had an epidural steroid shot in my back in March, that was $8,000. I was in there for like 1/2 hour! It's absolutely unbelievable!!

Hit my stop loss

I, too, have insurance but it just went up so I will be paying around $1500 plus doctor visit copays and meds so my out of pocket will probably be about $2000. Still not so bad based on actually prices you guys are telling me about (I feel blessed to be able to afford because at $2000 I know many still can't. Unfortunately, for most those without insurance since it is considered an "elective surgery" (HA!) unless you have to be rushed to the emergency room for bleeding or some near death incident, the hospital and doctors do not have to perform this surgery as it is not life threatening.

My SAH (3 days in the Castle) was a little over $8000. I spent about $50 on prescription meds after going home and about $25 during the following weeks on first aid pads and gauze to help close up my open incision.

Yes, thank God for insurance.
