Need help making a decision!

Hello! I'm new to this board, and it was recommended by a cyber friend. I had a laparoscopy in January, which was supposed to remove polyps from uterus, and check for an ovarian cyst. Well, the cyst wasn't there, they did a D and C, and my periods are as bad as ever - heavy for 1 1/2 days, with clots, big, small and very big for two days. I usually don't leave the house during this time. As well, I have persistent pain on my right ovary side. The doctor told me Monday that I have two choices. One was to go on Danazol to decrease the period trouble, which I don't want to do after looking up the side effects. The second was to have a vaginal hysterectomy to remove just the uterus, which would solve the pain caused by my sagging uterus, which is pulling on the right ovary. Anyway, the idea of having surgery is quite daunting, and I wondered if anyone had input into this situation. Sorry for the length of this e-mail! Thanks in advance.

Need help making a decision!

Hi Sandy, I'm glad you found this website. It's a great source of information. It sure sounds as if your life is miserable during the days when you are unable to leave the house due to heavy bleeding. If this is really bothersome to you, then a hysterectomy may be the way to go. However, you need to do a lot of homework about different hyst procedures and you need to ask your doctor lots of questions. Perhaps you may wish to get a second opinion while you're at it. After all, it is your body and therefore it is a very personal decision which you must make in conjunction with your doctor.

Laura

Danzonol

I was put on danzonol about 1 1/2 years ago for 6 months. I did not find the side effects were all that bad. The first week I did get lightheaded and suffered from minor headaches but into the secon week that subsided. The drug made me skip my period and it di combat my pain somewhat. The only bad thing was it did not shrink my endo (as I was told it would) and the month after going off it I was right back to the original pain and bleeding. Just wanted to give you my input on Danzonol and how it worked for me. Oh and one more side effect I experienced was swelling of the mucus membranes in my nose. But that also subsided after a couple of weeks.
Good luck in your decisions.

Need help making a decision!

Hi Sandy

I agree with the other sisters...take your time and explore your options fully before you make a decision. A second opinion might not be a bad idea, either...then when you do decide, you'll know that you really did your homework.

I took Danazol several years ago in hopes of shrinking massive fibroids prior to a myomectomy. I'm afraid that I had pretty bad side effects. I had the worse migraines I ever had while on the drug...just felt awful. I was surprised to hear that it's still being used...I thought that most gyns had moved to Lupron. (that's no day at the beach, either!)

Keep reading, take your time, and get yourself educated so you will feel more comfortable with your choices. You've come to the right place!!
