will they cancel the surgery if you are on your period at surgery day? when my hysterectomy was scheduled, i thought i would only have 1 more period, but it came sooner than normal. now that makes me think the next one will fall right at my surgery date or before! i hope they dont cancel it, i have my leave of absence and disability all approved for 6 weeks starting sept 13.my surgery date.also what kind of pain med do they give you at the hospital? home? i dont want to suffer!

thanks for any replies,

I had the same concern, I started before surgery (I am laughing to myself, I bleed all the time.) I asked the doctor office on last prep-op appt., talked to the nurse they said no problem. Call the doctor and ask! You will feel better!

i had wonderful "Aunt Flo" going into my surgery also. I was advised it would not matter. Like geturdonetoday said call the docs office if u have any questions at all. They knew me by name when they heard my voice on the phone from calling so often. better to know everything u need to know. You become more comfortable when u know what u need to know. It is an anxious wait but it will get better like everyone says and you will be a pampered princess like me soon. Good Luck to you . God Bless.

no worries; I asked my doctor this question at my pre-op appointment. He assured me it would be no problem; if I came to the hospital with my period, he would be taking care of that before I left. As luck would have it, I started the day before surgery!

I went home with Percocet and Ibuprofen 600 mg for pain; I asked my Dr. to give me the prescription at my pre-op appointment so I could have it filled and ready prior to surgery, rather than after.

I see your surgery is scheduled for September 13th; do you have a preop appointment scheduled? If so, make a list of questions to take with you. There is also a list of questions here on the site.

Good luck to you!

I asked my Dr. the same thing and he said it wouldn't matter at all if I was on my period. Call your Dr. just to be sure and for peace of mind. My Dr.'s nurse knows me quite well from all the calls I've made lately. lol. Thankfully they understand how nervous we are. Best of luck to you!! Teresa
