Urodynamic test done yesterday, A&P suggested

I can't say I didn't experience any pain during the urodynamic test yesterday. I did during the first cath to see the amount of urine I retain. The second cath was thinner but still uncomfortable.

End result, the doc said I need both anterior and posterior repairs. I didn't know I had a rectocele. He said it's actually worse that the cystocele which was not noticeable yesterday but was last week.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from a vag hyst with A&P repairs? As I've said before, I'm a big chicken.

He did say that I could just go with the hyst for now and wait until the rectocele and cystocele got worse. Maybe within the next five years. I've already stopped lifting and pushing heavy items. I imagine things could get worse if I start doing more physical stuff again.

So, in your opinion(s), would you say - get it over with and do it at the same time?

Thanks for your input.

I would say get it over and done with at the same time. Recovery will be the same for a vag hyster only, the A/P repair only and the whole lot together, so at least you save yourself repeating the ordeal. And, speaking from experience, I think prolapses only get worse in time not better..... It's a lot of discomfort, but it is worth it to get sorted out. Yes you are right, heavy lifting will worsen it ..and try to avoid standing in one place for a while. That makes you feel very uncomfortable. Get into a routine for your kegel exercises too and try to keep them up after your op.
Good luck...
ps Restrictions re lifting and sex are in place for about 6 weeks, dependng on your doctor. For me it was nothing heavier than a full kettle (a gallon of milk?) for 6 weeks. Take care.

I am scheduled the same day as you are for my TVH w/A&P repair. I had the urodynamic test done about 2 weeks ago to decide if and how to repair my cystocele. I already knew about the rectocele and knew that was to be repaired.
My urologist said that she does not and will not "fix" an unsymptomatic rectocele. That is when she sees most of the complications and complaints. She said if it doesn't bother you than it is OK.
I, however, have a moderate AND symptomatic rectocele. I have to splint to have a BM.
Splinting is when you have to push the rectocele back into the vagina and hold it in place to empty your bowels completely.
I would ask your Dr. if you actually need the repairs right now if you are not experiencing any symptoms and what to expect if you do NOT have the repairs done at this time.
That is my two cents and my experience so far.

Thank you for your input.

So far, I have a difference in urine flow and dribbleling after I'm done. I don't empty my bladder all the way and I keep dripping after I'm up, so I have to keep wiping. The flow is not strong and the stream goes all over the place. Yuck.

As for the rectocele, I had no idea.

I'm meeting with my gyne (not the urogyn) tomorrow to see how the uterine biopsy went and get his recommendation on what to do.

The Lupron is wearing off, I can feel my ovaries (a dull throbbing) and I have lubrication again. If I could go back in time, I think I should have said give me a transfusion and do the hyst. Lupron kicked my butt!

Again, thank you all for keeping me company during this mess.
