Well doesn't it just stink when your platelets are too low to do your chemo.... Get to wait all weekend and see if they come up by Mon, if not by then rinse and repeat a week from tomorrow....Arrrrrrrghhhh!!!! I want this stuff done with!

Oh Sandee,
The only thing worse than getting your chemo, is NOT getting it. I'm with you, I just want it over with. I had my 2nd chemo Sept. 5th. Counts were a bit low and got a shot for it, but we went ahead.
Hang in there and keep us posted!

What is the too low that stops your treatment?

Sandee, I'm sorry you had to wait. I hope you can go ahead with it Monday.

Sherlock, They can postpone if your white counts, red counts, or platelets fall too low. It depends on the doctor whether or not they'll go ahead with treatment.

I understand that -- I was just curious what was considered too low by other doctors. My WBC=2.7, ANC=1.1, and RBC= 121 hasn't excited anyone yet.

I just went through this and had to wait a week and then I was ready after two more blood tests. I hope next time it is not a four week wait again as I am on a 3 week schedule. This was my 5th one and I hear this is quite common by this time. Good luck with the waiting...I just sucked it up and had a week of feeling good (pretty good) after getting over the delay.

Unfortunately sometimes that does happen and I know how upsetting it is. However better to be safe than sorry. I know that my oncologist believes in having the number some up naturally without any shots to help it along.
You will be finished soon.

I know what you're going through, Sandee. I had to wait 5 weeks in between each taxol/carbo. When I was put on gemzar/cisplatin my onc. would go ahead with treatment, then send me over to the hospital for a platelet transfusion. My platelets just didn't want to recover on their own. Hope this will be just a one-time occurance for you. Good luck.
