Barium enema test and ivp ewwww....

Hi all..
my doctor has ordered some tests before my surgery. he says he wants to know exactly what's going on and if my 18 cm cyst is wrapped around anything.
from what i've read about the BE, i am terrified! More so of this than the actual surgery scheduled on Sep 27.
Anyone have this? do they give you anything to relax you and how do you get over the embarrassment? is it real painful, crampwise?

Laura,
I've had the BE and did not have any meds, at least I don't remember having any. I do recall being uncomfortable during the test, but it wasn't really painful. The worst part was feeling as if I needed to go and I had to hold it in. When they told me I could go I literally leaped off the table and RAN to the bathroom. If you think you'll need some, talk to your doctor beforehand. Although I wonder if they do give anything for this particular test. I'm wondering if you're too relaxed you may just let it go and I don't think they want that to happen. Anyways, talk with your doctor. I've not had an IVP so I don't know if they typically give meds with that. I do think sometimes we can read too much stuff on the net.
