Any advice on ways to prevent infection

I'm terrified of being in the hosp.I just recently lost my Grandma to a hosp aquired infection. Is there anything that you've heard of that can reduce your risks?Aslo what kind of pre op preps is everyone having to do.I was told that I need to shave or that they would do it when I got there(I THINK NOT)I asked if I could use clippers instead I have heard that small nicks in the skin can introduce bateria into your system.I just wonder if the clippers will be enough or if they will want to shave me when I get there(UGH).

I'm going to the castle the day after you. I was told by my Dr to do a fleet enema the night before. That's all the prep I have to do. I haven't heard(read) anybody mention shaving. I wouldn't want it done at all! It seems strange to me , you wouldn't think the pubic hair would get in the way.lol It'll be interesting to see what the other sisters have to say.

I guess since I was asking everyone else what there prep was I could have told you all what mine is silly me!!! My prep is clear liquids 36 hours before nothing red to drink though.I have to drink a bottle of the Mag citrate if you've never had it's a must try. NOT!!If you do ever have to drink it get it as cold as you possibly can almost frozen if you will.I have to shave, and also do the fleet enema.I was also told to drink two 16 oz bottles of gatorade which I have before my other surgeries it helps them be able to get the IV in better because you aren't so dehydrated. Then the usual nothing to eat drink and no smoking after midnight the night before.
