Recovery Time?

Hi again, can anyone give me an idea of recovery time after a full abdominal hysterectomy. When can I dirive, ride my horses and get back to work. I am 35 and I am a support worker to the disabled so as part of my job I haul wheel chairs in and out of the back of my landrover daily. The hospital thought 8 weeks but where not sure about lifting the wheel chair or getting back to working my horses and mucking out . Has anyone had a similiar experience. I dont want to rush it but I am not sure how I will cope with sitting around either?

Recovery Time?

You'll want to check with your Dr. on specifics but here's what I've been told ...
1. No lifting over 12lbs for three months
2. No housework of anykind for at least 2-3 weeks
3. No driving for 2 weeks
4. Nothing vaginally --- no sex, baths, pools - for 4 weeks
5. I teach piano in my home, so 2 weeks off. He said most office workers take 6 weeks and of course anyone lifting needs three months.

All of this is IF I have no complications and feel up to it. Otherwise, the restrictions may be longer.

Recovery Time?

I was told I could do anything I want after 6 weeks, although dr tried to restrict my driving until 8 weeks. We negotiated that down to 4 (drive at 5). By 6 weeks I felt pretty darn good, but I don't think I would have been up for anything as physically demanding as you describe. That took about 8 weeks. Now I do everything without thinking about it and have had no repercussions. Have cleaned out my attic and lugged stuff up 2 stories from my basement to the attic without a problem.

Recovery Time?

Hi Moody Mare. Love your name! I haven't had my surgery yet, but due to being single and my horses being here at the house, working with them was a big question. My doctor was very emphatic that he would not release me to do ANYTHING with the horses for 8 weeks, possibly longer. The thought of this is driving me crazy. The logistics of having friends feed, clean stalls and groom for 8 weeks is not very feasible, especially with a 1 1/2 year old stud colt who needs to be handled and worked. I can't afford to board them during this time either (6 horses).

I am scheduled for about a week before you. Hopefully our recoveries will be quick and we can get back in the saddle before the new year.
