Oopherectomy and I still have an ovary??

Been almost a year since my hysterectomy. I had both ovaries removed. One had a large teratoma (dermoid cyst) on it. Now, the CT scan shows that I have a fast growing teratoma where my right ovary was. The path report from the original surgery shows that they received my right ovary.

Anyone ever had this happen before? The doc said that he'll try to remove it laparoscopically, but if there's too much scar tissue, he may have to open me back up. NOOO!!

There is something called Ovarian Remnant Syndrome. What happens is a small piece of tissue may be left behind and it starts to grow. It's not unusual for the remnant to even start producing hormones. You can read more about it in our Resources section HysterSister Resources Just type remnant in the search box. You can also do a search of this forum using the same keyword. You should come up with quite a few threads with some info.
