Second Chemo

Well, my second chemo of round one is now over. One more to go and then a week off. YEAH
After being stuck 3 times by the chemo nurses and not getting a vein, I had had it.
I got mad and told them I wanted a vein specialist now. No more fooling around, no more let me tryies, no more, oops.
Well within five minutes this wonderful nurse specialist arrived and within 2 minutes (first try) got my vein without any problems.
Until I have a port put in, she said that she will hook me up whenever needed.
Thank goodness for her or I was going to call it quits.

Port, port, port. It will prevent all the mis-tries as it has a wider areas for access. My port is a lifesaver!

I was terrified to get a port and although I am always acutely aware of having it my chemo treatments have been so much easier with it.
I'm glad that you insisted on a specialist and that she will take care of you until your port is inserted.
Take care Rosalie and best of luck with your next round.

How are you?

I've been wondering how your week was going.

While at the clinic today several women were talking about their ports. I am surprised how long they are left in. I had understood they present more problems being in longer, but these have been several years. I am feeling much more comfortable with having mine now.
Hope your port procedure is done double time for you.

My port is 51/2 years old. Never had a problem with it.
Just get it flushed once every 3 months.

Hi Rosalie....
I think about you and look forward to your posts. Good for you about being assertive in your care. I remember feeling bad about the nurses not being able to get a vein (like I did it on purpose and did they think I enjoyed being a pin cushion). Wishing you well and praying for you....

Yes, Rosalie, get the port if you can. Although they like to take ports out after about a year, my brother, who has had cancer twice, and because of his medical situation, often goes into a hospital for 3 weeks to a month at a time, kept his in for over 5 years, with no problem. More people are keeping them longer without a problem, and they make life much much easier for someone who finds themselves "at the bad end of an IV" for an extended time.

Dear Rosalie,

Glad you got another chemo under your belt and out of the way. And so glad you got a nurse specialist to come and do a clean job of putting in the IV. There should be some mighty strict rules about not contributing to the suffering of chemo patients!!

Is your Thursday chemo and back to work on Monday plan working with this new chemo? You are such an inspiration.

XOXO

Well, as if it hasn't been said enough, get that port in!

I have my second one, as my first one broke and wouldn't draw or flush. I go to the local hospital for my labs as my oncologist is almost 2 hours away. They draw from a vein, and it reminds me why I'm glad I have a port.

: on getting chemo number 2 down!

Thanks all,
Yes, I am working on the port.
I was supposed to talk to my oncologist about it yesterday but she was in a meeting most of the day. Story of my life.
Genie,,, my story is chemo on Thursdays for three weeks and off a week. That is considered a cycle.
I am going back to work today....Friday.
I am feeling ok today. A little tired and queesy but ok.
