Not sure to be in shock or not!

The billing asst. called today and told me that everything is ok with the insurance company. I called the insurance company to make sure and gave them the codes and she said that sterilization is not covered but a hysterectomy is and the codes that I gave her, where on the plan. BUT the insurance company somewhat gave me the run around. It was like I am not telling you exactly that it is covered but read between the lines sort of thing.
She said I would not get an approval letter, that that will take between 40 to 60 days to get.
BUT the code I gave her was for a TAH, I will call the Dr.'s office tomorrow to see if I can get one for TVH, the Dr. doesn't know which she is going to do until she checks me on the 16th--day before surgery.
Does this sound right, should I still be concerned with the insurance company?? I really don't think I can do anything more. Any advice???

NOW what to do with all these butterflies, bees and other bugs in my stomach!!!

It's pretty standard that the insurance co. reps will not definitively tell you that you'll be covered by them. But, they will tell you what procedures your policy covers...if that makes any sense. What is sounds like to me, based on what you've written, is that your ins. co. will not cover a woman who's having her tubes tied (sterilization), but they will cover a hyst (for medical/health reasons). Obviously, having a hyst, whether it be a vaginal or abdominal, would be for health reasons and would be a covered expense, based on the "between the lines" comment.
Hope this helps!
