Side Effects

Is there any side effects after having surgery? I know everyone is different. I will soon have a hysterectomy but will be keeping my ovaries. Just wondering.

Side Effects

I had a total hyst and lost one ovary (dermoid cyst). I had noticable hot flashes for a day or two (noticable to me because I am almost never hot). The hot flashes went away and haven't come back (yet...I was 45 at time of hyst). The one ovary seems to be doing the job.

Hope things work out just as well or better for you.

Yes, there can be many side effects to having a hyst. That is why it is very important that you weigh the pros and cons about having a hyst, seek at least a second opinion, and research any and all options and/or alternatives that might be available to you for your medical condition. Any surgery can have complications, some permanent.

Some ladies do come to regret their hysts, others are glad they had theirs. Having a hyst can affect many parts of your body depending on how the surgery is performed, why you had the surgery, etc.

I can tell you that while I do not regret my hyst, I ended up with internal bleeding that set off a chain reaction of complications. My two night hospital stay ended up lasting 10 days. My 6 weeks of recovery was actually 6 months. I have never quite been the same. And for my medical condition, endometriosis, the hyst was not even a cure.

So do your research, seek additional medical opinions, and go into the surgery with your eyes wide open after you have tried any alternatives.

Best wishes to you!
