What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

What are things that you think would make a hospital stay that much easier? What are things that you think you could not do without at a hospital? TIA

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

TIA-
For me it was a few pair of sweat pants, ALOT of socks, loose shirts, and a few panties. The nurses had a hard time determining if I was a patient or a visitor. Just depends on your comfort level. I was told I would be in the hospital a MINIMUM of 3 days, as it turns out I was home the next night. Every case is different, as is every experience. Just remember not to over do it, ask for help, and do what your doctor says.

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

Putting together my lists has been an ongoing project for me for several weeks now. One thing I am going to have is a little bedside bag. In it I hope to have some chapstick, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, a good book, some Sudoku, my cell phone (if allowed, but also because I have so many numbers stored in it), my thyroid medication, pictures of my kids, things like that.

A couple of months ago, I had a conization and thought I was going home the same day. Complications kept me overnight and of course I was unprepared. I wish I had had several pairs of socks, slippers for sure, and my own comfy clothes since those hospital gowns always get tangled up, and never ever fit right.

And if we're not up for getting up at all in those few days, at least we'll be prepared for feeling up to it!!

Best of luck to you and please keep posting.

~Janet

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

I brought a small bag with my own robe, 2 pair of panties, some magazines, my walkman, gas x, face wash, face cream, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, contact lenses, contact lense cleaner, eyeglasses, mp3 player, bible, slippers, sanitary pads with wings, mints and gum for dry mouth, chap stick, package of wet hiney wipes, hairbrush and scrunchies, snacks for dh, pen and paper to write notes to ask doctor or nurses, and the hospital supplied the rest. I wore a warm up suit to the hospital and wore the same one home. and then slept in it all day. Lynn

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

My most invaluable thing I brought to the hospital you ask????

EARPLUGS!!!!!! All the machines, noise, etc.....they were a life saver.

I brought lots of other things too:

cellphone
Oil of Olay face cloths
Brush Ups - for your teeth
chapstick - also a MUST
Body cleansing cloths
slip on slippers, not the boot kind, too hard to get on and off
I did bring my own jammies, but never wore them
Several pairs of big comfy panties
cozy socks

I brought lots of other stuff that I never even used. Magazines? I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to read them.

Hi Mexicana!

Here's a handy checklist from the Pre-Op Articles archive, that I hope you will find useful:

What To Bring To The Hospital

There also are dozens and dozens of helpful tips of this nature in the "Hints For Your Hysterectomy" forum that is at the very top of the Pre-Op Message Board main page. After their surgery, many members post there to share their personal tips for a smooth Castle stay.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

For my salpingectomy for which I stayed 3 days in the castle, I brought the following with me:
  • Chapstick
  • Hair Brush
  • head band to keep my hair off my face
  • 2 pairs loose pajamas
  • slippers
  • robe
  • nail file (I hate when you get a little jagged area and it catches on the sheets)
  • hand/face cream (so dry in the hospital)
  • cell phone...DH used it to call family after surgery
  • pen
  • my current knitting project...I was surprised I actually felt like knitting and did not mess up the pattern!

The only other thing I wish I had brought was my own shampoo. I was able to shower the morning after surgery and the only shampoo the hospital had was a body wash/shampoo combo. But that was minor.

I put the chapstick, lotion, nailfile, pen and cellphone in a small zippered makeupcase which I kept on the rolly table next to my bed...easy to reach and kept things together.

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

Hi...I wanted to add that I brought my own pillow (tempur-pedic) and a light weight down throw. All the nurses chuckled when they came to my room and my husband thought I was nuts for bringing them but hey I was trying to be as comfortable as possible.

I also copied another sister's idea and hung a fanny pack with all my essentials from the bed rail. It worked out great when I was on my own.

Best of luck to you...the waiting was the absolute worst and having this surgery was the BEST thing I ever did!

What are must have for a 3 day hospital stay?

I was in the for three nights.... and honestly, I can say that this is what I used:

small notebook and pen (to jot down notes and questions)
toothbrush and toothpaste
comb and ponytail holder (my hair was long then)
body lotion
light-up alarm clock to put on my tray table so I wouldn't have to hunt for my glasses to see the time
People magazine (finally read on day 3)

Honest -- that was it. I was too ill to change into my own nightgown, and the hospital wouldn't allow me to wear my own socks OR slippers -- it was against their policy. They had the shower gel and shampoo.

By the time I wanted to mess with anything else, I wanted to be home.

Of course, that's just me -- but really, if there's anything you really need, someone can bring it for you.
