abnormal bleeding wont stop

I am due to have a LAVH on the 19th..
a bit of history..
two weeks ago I went to the ER after 5 weeks of bleeding and giving birth to clots the size of plums..

they gave me prevera and sent me to the gyn,
prevera took 5 days to stop bleeding...
then just 6 days after taking the last pill I started again..that was on THurs...
today..Saturday I can not stand up, walk, sit down, lie down etc, without bleeding so hard, I completely go through a super tampon and maxi pad every 15 minutes, sometimes less than that..

it just does not FEEL like I am having my period, but like something is seriously wrong...

scared to death and not sure what to do now that it is Saturday night...and my dr is not the gyn on call....

I understand your fear! That's EXACTLY what took me to the ER May 24th and started the whole process leading to my hyst. 10 days ago.
I had to go to ER last week and had a different gyn. check me ... I wouldn't worry about that part of it. You're scheduled for a hyst Dec. 19th I see but you'll want to at least slow the bleeding so your blood count is high enough to do the surgery!
IMHO, I would go to the ER or at least call your after-hours number and see if you can get TRANEXAMIC ACID 500mg(sp??). THey gave me that and the clots stopped in just one dose (bleeding took a few days to stop). Hang in there - it's almost over!

I am an RN and although gyn is not my speciality, I suggest that you report to the emergency room for an evaluation. From the symptoms you are describing, you are losing too much blood too fast. You really want to avoid a blood transfusion if possible. The staff will contact the MD who is on call for your physician. Someone will help you.

Excellent! Validation by a pro!! Something it would be nice to see more of, although I understand the rules, etc.
Jaci-have you left yet? called a cab? hired a helicopter?

My sister was losing clots the size of dinner plates. They put her on megace which did help. I agree with the others, go to the ER and at least they will give you fluids.

I would call your gynecologist immediately who might call in medication or send you to the ER. We're supposed to consider it an emergency when we are soaking more than a pad an hour.

Aygestin stops my bleeding, but I take three a day.

I had horrendous bleeding too. I was way past pads or tampons and went through 16 Poise pads, (the ones you can pee in), in just over a day. The last time I was loosing so much blood i couldn't believe anyone could loose that much and still live and went to Emergency - I lost so much blood my blood pressure dropped and they had to give me some fluids through an I.V. to pump up the volume. They also gave me Naproxin to help stop the little contractions in the uterus which contribute to the bleeding, which took about 4 days to work.

They told me that where the blood is connected tot he uterus for your period looks like lots of tiny vines, (sorry, probably bad grammer), and the contractions pull them away and causes bleeding. If you have fibroids then multiply the effect. The clots are "old blood' and they were not concerned with that as much as the bright red stuff.

When I saw my GYN she put me on birth control pills to stop it until surgery, which she scheduled 10 days later. She told me I didn't have another hemmorage in me and would be getting a hyst in the middle of the night if I didn't take the pill.

Please, please, please go to the Emerg and let them take a look at you. Even if they won't be able to stop the gushes but they will see where your body fluid level is and you may need some more through an IV.

I can relate to you Jaci. I have been bleeding for 28 days now. I am bleeding pretty heavy too with large clots...scheduled for TAH and LSO on Tuesday, today is Sunday. I am worried that they will postpone the surgery when I get to the hospital on Tuesday. I had pre-op on Wednesday Dec. 6th. Do you think They would have called me already if my blood was too low for surgery? I started iron therapy (Repliva) on Nov. 13th for anemia. Called Dr. on Nov 27th and she put me on Provera for 10 days which slowed the bleeding a little. I took the last one on the 6th and then my bleeding started heavy again. I just want to get this over with.
I wish you the best of luck and please take care of yourself Jaci. Blessings!!
