First day back at work.. a few tips

I have a desk job so I wasn't too concerned about overdoing it when I came back. WRONG!!!

The hole punch is NOT your friend. It hurt to press down on it for more than three sheets of paper.

Try a stationary chair. I have a chair that swivels and found myself twisting in a way that hurt.

Take the elevator. The all day up and down the stairs (which was actually only seven times) really wore me out.

I wish I could have taken the additional week the doctor wanted me to, but I am out of paid leave and had no choice.

25 more minutes and I plan on going home, putting on some ice and the heating pad (one for the front, one for the back) and doing absolutely nothing!!

Good luck to the princesses that are soon returning to the working world. Try to ease into it. I jumped in with both feet and I'm paying for it.

First day back at work.. a few tips

LOL I hear you - I went back to work last week (5 weeks) should have waited. I was also out of leave time. But alond the same lines of your advise:

The rolling chair is also not your friend- don't push off with your feet - very, very bad!

Computer work - don't sit at computer for long - you will regret it when you try to get up and it almost seems to make the swelly belly thing worse.

Take as much time as you have!

Today, I was actually in my classroom and teaching all day - I am so sore and so tired. I have dr. appointment tomorrow - I'll take the exam over work at this point anyday!

First day back at work.. a few tips

I go back to work next Tuesday, the day after Christmas. Some days I think I can other days I'm don't know how I'm going to do it. I will be one day shy of 3 weeks. I've been working from home most days anyways. I'll remember the chair when I get there!

First day back at work.. a few tips

Thanks for posting. I am just 6 weeks today and really do not feel ready. My post opt appt got changed to Weds, so needless to say work and I are at a small conflict. I really feel I need more time, but I am afraid I will be denied. Thanks for the computer tip. I was thinking more time on the computer might be easier. Good Luck

First day back at work.. a few tips

Take as much time as you can. I took 8 weeks and it was still rough going back. I too have a desk job but I found that standing some and walking during lunch really helps.

First day back at work.. a few tips

I am almost two weeks and I have no intention of going back to work until I absolutely have to. My job is very stressful and I was hoping to at least get 5 weeks, but now the STD Insurance is telling me they will only pay for 4 weeks which means I have to go back right after the new year. I was at least hoping for another week just to get my house in order (DH is not very good at cleaning ) and my mind in order before going to work.

While I realize I only had a TVH rather than the planned LAVH, I still wish I had the right to decide when I feel ready to return to work.

I agree. I went back at 6 weeks as I was on unpaid leave and I need the money! But how exhausting. And I too have a desk job shuffling papers. It has been a bit over 2 weeks, and it is getting easier...but I sure do sleep a lot on the weekends and evenings! Aches are much less now than they were though. Thank God for that much! I too wish I could have stayed out a few more weeks. It is a frustrating experience.

Wow - that is quick. Now granted I do work in a prison, but even if I was in another setting, I just don't know if I could have done it at 3 weeks??? I am also working on my final research proposal for grad school and all I can say is thank God I did not actually submit what I wrote during that time - they would have had me drug tested! LOL. Good luck, but please do not push it becasue it is exhausting - no matter what you do or where.

First day back at work.. a few tips

Thanks for the warning. I go back next Thurs. I work in a lab and am on my feet most of the day and do a lot of lifting. I'll try and label in the afternoons for a few days. It's a lot more sitting. I'll plan on take out or somebody else cooking.

First day back at work.. a few tips

Ladies, don't be so hard on yourselfs and try to do everything. One thing I learned in 2006 (a year that included 3 surgeries for myself, one for my DH, and one for dear mom) is to rethink priorties. I put a spic and span house at the bottom of the list. Clean clothes and groceries for my family are at the top. Anything more is considered a bonus. I always feel like I need to accomplish something every day, but now I consider getting rested up as an accomplishment. Even though this has been a tough year, it's one year and in the skeem of things that only big hiccup.
