Doc says no bowel prep..

hello to the only people that really understand what is going on...in two weeks I am having LAVH-my fibroid is resting very uncomfortably on my bladder so trust me when I say I know every restroom from and miles around! My docor says bowell prep is not necessary unless we suspected cancer- that sounds plain weird to me....Should I stop meat the week before and take exlax or something...I want the smoothest recovery,,,,

Doc says no bowel prep..

Well I'm having a TVH tomorrow and I wasn't told to start any type of special diet. My uterus is resting on my bladder. I asked the pre-op nurse and she said there wasn't a special diet until after the surgery. Just soft foods and try to stay away from dairy the first couple of days after the surgery.

Doc says no bowel prep..

Hi luck4me,

My Dr also told me not to do a bowel prep We are among the lucky ones.......

I ate a normal diet right up until 10 pm the night before my surgery. I ate meat. I didn't have any problems after surgery because of it.

It is extremely important that you follow the exact orders your Dr gives you for your surgery preparations. That includes any diet or bowel prep. There have been women who have had their surgeries postponed because they decided on their own to do a bowel prep and caused their electrolytes to be off balance.

While not eatting meat won't hurt you, it is important that you get all the nutrition you need through whatever you do eat....your body will need all the nutrients it can get during recovery.

Best Wishes to you,
,
Kay

Doc says no bowel prep..

I had to do the bowel prep as my surgery was due to cancer of the uterus. My surgeon explained it this way: If the cancer had grown thru the wall and attached itself to the intestines or colon then they would have to remove that part of the intestines or colon. With the prep they don't have to worry about fecal matter.
The first time I had cancer as a child, I did have to have part of my intestine removed as the tumor had grown from the appendix and was covering the outside of the intestine.

I didn't have to do bowel prep. The nurse at the hospital said they "don't do that anymore....much". I was happy, but I'm also certain he wasn't expecting to run into anything too unusual.
