Blood clot and soy???

I had my hysterectomy in June of 2006 and a Pulmonary Embolism 3 weeks after. I just came off the Coumadin, thank you God!!! I want to know if you ladies who have ever had a blood clot experiance or knowledge of this, know if it's okay to take soy suppliments if you have had a blood clot? I really need something, I have every single menopause symptom you can think of! This week I have to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy because my gut has been so messed up and I have had an elevated CA 19 -9. That is a tumor marker for cancer. The doctors say it is mostlikely inflammation; with my symptoms and all they need to check it out. I sure wish I was my old self again. Please give me and input you have.
Candis AKA Ginnie is my real name

Blood clot and soy???

I think the greater danger is while your actually taking coumadin. Much like limiting vitamin k foods while on coumadin. Since blood clots are a serious ailment, please contact your doc for clarity.

Blood clot and soy???

I have a blood clotting disorder (Factor V Leiden) and had a DVT at 3 weeks post op. My hematologist has told me that I cannot take soy supplements as they will convert to estrogen in my body and could cause another clot.

If in doubt, please talk to your hematologist.

Blood clot and soy???

I too have factor V Leiden. I had a blood clot 22 years ago after a car accident. I have been told I cannot take soy supplements or HRT because of the risk of another clot.

The main reason for having the hyst in my case was because I had cervical stenosis after an extensice cone biopsy. My cervix was scarred shut and my menses could not exit my body. I was not a candidate for continuous birth control to stop my periods so the option was the hyst.

Check with your doctor on the soy, just to be safe.

Blood clot and soy???

I'm with the last 2 posters, my hemo told me no soy no over the counter anything, no matter how *natural* the hormone replacement is supposed to be. I would suggest you talk to your doc and see what they suggest. At the moment I am on a vaginal estrogen cream (after much discussion between gyn and hemo and at half teh dose and only twice a week) but that is with constant observsation and regular blood work being drawn as the only time I have clotted is when I was pregnant. I also have FVL mutation with protein c resistance and high homocystein and fibrinogen levels.
Call your doc who was treating the clot.
Good luck!
