So nervous doc put me on Ativan

My doctor put me on something called atavan? I have to go pick it up from CVS, has anyone ever taken this? I have been having bad dreams about surgery and not being able to sleep. Then I have this knot in my chest like there is food stuck in it that just won't go down. No matter what I eat or Drink when it passes that spot it hurts. Doctor thinks it ia all nerves. I am not a nervous person, what is this doing to me! LOL Has anyone every taken this or know anything about it?

Pre-op nerves can wreck havoc with the body. I was a total wreck before my TAH/BSO but I had a very uncaring (to say the least!) doctor & so I suffered needlessly for 6 weeks before the surgery. I switched to another doctor (different practice) who happens to be a uro/gyn .. so he did my repair surgery. I was twice as nervous for that surgery. Dr. Wonderful gave me Ativan to take before bedtime while I waited for my surgery date to arrive (6 weeks). The Ativan was a life saver - I slept well, ate properly and it relieved the stress associated with anxiety. Please don't be frightened to take the will help to get you through this stressful time.

I agree with huntingandmoon. Ativan is wonderful. It will help you sleep, and should get rid of the tightness in your chest. Nerves can and will reek havoc on your system...especially during the wait for this surgery.

Good Luck,

Thanks guys! I don't know why I am so upset over this, I have had 3 kids (all teenagers now) this could be part of the problem, lol. But 3 kids- 2 laproscopies-and Sever migrains for 13 years. Now I need Anxiety meds! It is just something about this surgery that scares the heck out of me. I cry alot and I never cry. I keep thinking that i am not going to wake up or that they will find something that will change my life. I keep telling myself that this is not going to happen, but self won't listin! LOL

I am so sorry you are so scared, but i was too. Scared to death. Now that it is over, i feel silly for being so frightened lol. I had a TVH and it was so easy and it went really smooth. My blood pressure was low, but other then that and some unexpected bleeding, oh, and a ovary they couldn't reach, lol, it all went well. I had to be put on ambien because of nerves and no sleep. Please try not to freak so much, it really was the easiest surgery i had ever been through. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Do NOT drive with this until you know exactly how it effects you. I asked for something to help me sleep after I was given the diagnois of cancer. I was sleeping if I was lucky 2 hrs a night. Antivan knocked me out for at least 5 hrs of sleep.

I wouldn't take if I was going to drive. But I don't get out much due to the pain in my belly. I am nervous and excited to have the pain gone. I wish it was sooner. 25 days and counting...

I had TAH/BSO, 7weeks post-op. I was prescribed antivan, after the third day of surgery. I got without even asking for it, maybe my doc knew something that I did'nt. But it helped me to get through the next 10 days following discharge. I have not had to take anything since. I am still waiting on HRT, have not been prescribed yet. Surgery was complicted, so post-op has not been going as smoothly as I had hoped. It was nobody's fault, just waited to long. Wish somebody had given me antivan years ago.
