cervix removed????

I am due to have uterus and ovaries removed but am a bit confused about having my cervix removed. I have spoke to a few women who say that it seriously effected their sex life afterwards.
Can anyone help from experience?

cervix removed????

Sarah
I'm having my Cervix removed also. I talked to my doctor a little about it, from what she told me some women are so attached to it, that they don't want it removed. She said they feel that it contributes to satisfying sex, she said from all the studies and what not that's it's not proven true. Hope that helps.

cervix removed????

I decided to keep mine based on what I read here about it helps to keep the structure in place to prevent bladder prolapse later. I discussed with my ob/gyn and she agreed with this and changed my surgery from a tah to a sah. She did warn me though since I was choosing to keep the cervix, I may have some spotting around period time each month and also I would still have to do pap-smears.

Good luck on your surgery and the decision on this!

cervix removed????

I also struggled with issues regarding sex and needed info on which body parts to keep. I'm only on day 4 after surgery so I have no real world experience yet.

I wanted to switch from an abdominal hysterectomy (keeping the overies), to a myomectomy since the uterus plays a part in orgasms. But my doctor said she would rather sell me on keeping my cervix than my uterus. This is ONLY because I'm 43 and do not want kids. I had a lot of broids and she did not want me to worry about blood loss associated with the myomectomy. Keep everything that makes sense for your situation! If you can keep your cervix--keep it! The cervix helps to keep the vagina supported during sex and has nerves that participate in orgasms. Only a small percent of women have mini-periods later.

My doctor also said a supracervical abdominal hysterectomy is an easier surgery for her. It took only 50 minutes for mine.

cervix removed????

Everything is out of me, and sex really could not be better. I had so much pain prior to my hyst, I couldn't believe what a difference.

Like they say, I guess it depends on the person.

cervix removed????

I let them have my cervix. SEX IS GREAT! My libido is higher, and I don't miss my cervix. Orgasms are better than they were even.

You are right, there are so many different opinions on whether or not the cervix provides support.

My GYN felt that if your bladder etal are gonna fall its because there was a problem not related to lack of support. They prolaspe on people with cervix's they are not attatched to one another. The vaginal cuff fills the spcae where the cervix was and will provide the same thing if that is the common belief.

Good luck to you. ~Anju

cervix removed????

Hi Sarah,

I kept my cervix and I am still happy with my decision. In pre-op, my Dr told me he felt the cervix helps with future pelvic support and with sex.

Here is a Hyster Sisters article that goes over the cervix:

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_96911.htm

As Simplethingskd mentioned, if a Hyster Sisters keeps the cervix and one or both ovaries, there is a chance of a mini-period in post-op. You might check out cervix cauterization. I had mine cauterized during my hyst and I have not had a mini-period.

Sending best wishes~

Mary
