fistula repaired 1/30-i did it!!!

hi ladies-i had the vesicovaginal fistula repaired on1/30-i was so scared but it wasnt as bad as i was anticipating. i was worried that the pain would be as bad as the hysterectomy. . . but it wasnt. going under anesthesia i wasnt sure if they would be able to repair the fistula vaginally or have to go through the hyster incision on abd. the first thing i did when i awoke from the anesthesia was feel my belly. the doctor was there and said they were able to do it vaginally and that i only had a urinary catheter(foley) and not a suprpubic catheter as was mentioned to me as being a possibility as i was in the holding area prior to surgery. also, my gyn who performed the abd hyster in dec. came in unexpectedly to me and said he was going to be in on the surgery in the event i needed to be opened again abdominally. i have to keep the catheter in for two weeks then see the urologist. . .cath is uncomfortable at times. . .sometimes i feel the need to urinate even though the cath seems to be draining well. im so glad it is over. . . and i am dry, dry, dry,dry dry. . .it feels marvolous!!!! thank you all the fistula sisters for your support and answering my questions. . .by the way, i came home the same day i had surgery-surgery took 2 and 1/2 hours per the surgical nurse, and i was discharged home within 1 hour of going out of the recovery room. thanks again-sincerely

Sparkey,

That is such good news. I am glad you are feeling so great!! Just remember you are still recovering, and while you may not have any outside indications, you had major surgery on the inside - you want to give your body the best chance to fully recover properly. Follow those doctors orders and remember to pamper yourself!

Congrats,
Dee
