Private room

Does anyone know how you can go about requesting a private room? I don't think that I really want to share this (sure to be) lovely experience with anyone , therefore I would choose to have a private room if at all possible.
Has anyone out there have this experience? How difficult/easy it was? I know that it probably depends on the insurance company, etc. yada yada yada, but I would still like to get some input.

Thanks.

Private room

At my pre-op(which was done by the same day surgery part of the hospital, not by my doctor), they asked if I wanted one. I did and there was an extra charge which was not covered by insurance. I think you could call the hospital and ask. I don't think it was more than $100 and it was well worth it for me (since I was only in for one day).

Private room

When I went for pre-op, the paper work had the boxes to check if you wanted a private or semi-private room. My insurance won't cover a private room so I requested a semi-private room. The kicker is that the hospital I'm in only has private rooms. But if you request one the insurance will try to bill you. You should call your hospital and your insurance and ask about it. E

PS- Be ready to pay for a private room!

Private room

Actually, your insurance company will probably pay for a semi-private room, and all you'd be responsible for is the difference between semi-private and private. For me (and this was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN), the difference was $35 a day -- I considered it a bargain!!

Just ask when they pre-register you. You'll get private if available. (I had a roommate only one of my three nights because they were too crowded.)

Or maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones where they only have private rooms!! to you.

Private room

I was surprises to find when i got to my room it was a private room. I did not expect this. Come to find out I am on the maternity ward. Yes, the same place where women have babies. I could actually hear the babies crying. It's a good thing i am 36 and done having children or I would have have been very upset. A woman who havs just had her reproductive organs removed has no business being on that floor. This was a fairly large hospital in Austin Tx. Check with the hospital and find out where you will be. You could also request a pvt room and they may be able to accomodate you.

Same with my hospital. I would DEFINATELY have paid the extra charge to have a private room. I wouldn't have wanted to share a room with people walking in and out all day long while I was trying to sleep and recover.

Private room

Hi, when I went in for my pre-op at the hospital, the lady that does the pre register asked if i wanted a private room at an extra $30.00 a day charge, I said yes please! I had rather scrape that up then have to
hear someone else grunting and graoning besides me!LOL..I was lucky i was put on the surgical floor where i was...they had remodeled and I think I heard it used to be the maternity wing a few yeARS back..it wont hurt to call and ask about the room and what floor!

Private room

I was already paying for my own medical coverage so I couldn't afford a private room...therefore I didn't ask. To my suprise I was put in a private room! On the hospital bill submitted to my insurance its listed as semi-private.

Private room

I asked for a private room at my pre-op and asked what it would cost. My hospital didn't charge for a private room, which really suprised me. I would have been glad to pay the difference. I did have to wait in the recovery room for a couple extra hours for a private room to open up, but it was well worth it.
