Incisional Hernia

Well, its been a long time since I've been on here. 5 years since my TAH with ovray removal. Today I went for my annual pap doctor, and he tells me I have a 4cm incisional hernia! Imagine my shock to this news. I have had no problems, no pain. So Wednesday I am going to my family physician for a second opinion and maybe some tests to confirm this. What tests are there? I read on the internet that an x ray or a ct scan is done before hernia surgery. I just want to confirm the hernia first.
The doctor that did my TAH is no longer here. He moved out of the area over a year ago. I had a 'suspicious' lump pop up on my abdominum about 6 months after surgery, and I specifically was checked out for a hernia and there was none? Could it have developed since then? I have had regular check ups and paps every year since and it was never found until now, with this new doctor. How bad is an incisional hernia. Does it require surgery?

I had my TAH 6 years ago and I have an incisional hernia also and this was confirmed two years ago by a general surgeon after a colonoscopy that turned out to be a bad experience of have the scope rammed up me do to the adhesions from my TAH. He also believes this hernia was a result . He stated it was not an urgent surgery and only if it bothered. All that bothered at the time was the torn adhesions. I now believe I have a secondary hernia after having the violent flue 6 weeks ago. I am seeing my primary tomorrow for confirmation as this one hurts along with the other. The one hernia he stated he could do laproscopic surgery with mesh. Now where I believe the other one is it feels like the floor of where my left ovary was has fallen or either I have torn the adhesions again. He also stated that while in there he could do some exploritory regarding the adhesions to see if they had attached themselves to other organs causing problems and pain. Do not be alarmed if it does not bother you. I was told that an incisional hernia can pop up years later with heavy lifting and any considerdable weight gain.
