I should've added my sig. I had an lsh, so I have little incisions. Plus my day is only five hours long or less depending on the day of the week. I don't recommend it to anyone with more invasive procedures.

Hello, all!

My LAVH turned into a TAH (they left the ovaries) when it was discovered that my fibroid had grown too big to do the LAVH. I had an epidural for the abdominal pain, which was great until they removed the catheter. Can't urinate when your bladder doesn't get the nerve signals! Once the epidural had worn off, my bladder was back in business.

What was supposed to be a quick 24 hour LAVH castle stay turned into a 3-day in residence with the cath issues and low blood iron. I ended up needing 2 units of blood before I came home.

Much thanks to all the sisters who shared their wealth of knowledge. It made my life pre-op that much better.

Hi All,

Special thanks to all the women on this board who provided insightful information prior to surgery. My swelly band has become my best friend and I just love it. My surgery was Feb 20 for supracervical hysto and one week post op I am feeling extremely well. I was treated for 16 week fibroid and endometriosis (the uterus and fibroid mass weighed 2 lbs.) Today I finally had success, BM. Nurse said it would take about a week but I was surprised that the process took so long. Can't say I had any discomfort, just wanted to know that the my plumbing was working correctly. Doctors and nurses were surprised at my fast recovery rate; had my surgery at 5 p.m. and by 5 a.m. I was bugging them for food after not having anything to eat for 48 hours. I credit my success to being in very good physical shape prior to surgery and also the type of anethesia I chose for surgery. I asked for a combined epidural with sedation and requested anti-nausea meds prior to surgery and afterwards. I also requested a continous epidural infusion for 12 hours after surgery and a pca pump with fentanyl and more anti nausea meds. (Choose not to take morphine since it tends to make many people nauseous, myself included). When I woke from surgery, I felt fantastic. No grogginess or nausea symptoms. I was wide awake and alert. For the next 12 hours I made sure to use the breathing aparatus they gave (tube with a small ball in a plastic container) often. Every hour I was awake I breathed into the device ten times. I had blown into the device 80 times before they served me breakfast and it really helped clear my lungs and get my bowels moving. By noon time I had gone to the bathroom, was starting to walk the halls, and began taking meds orally. I would recommend to those of you who take the pca pump to make sure the nurse has your meds available before giving up the pump. You don't want to chase the pain and it often takes a while before receiving your meds. I was in for two days and released early the 2nd morning. Today I am fairly mobile, able to walk up the stairs and only taking motrin for pain. Thanks for everyone's thoughtfulness and good wishes. Debra

If I am posting here, it must mean I made it!

Phew! I am so glad I made it to the post op board! I was so scared to be in surgery and now am so glad to be here!

I had a TVH with A&P repairs and a sling placed on Friday the 23rd. Came home on Monday, with a leg bag (catheter) on until Thursday. The first 24 hours were rough, but I actually feel really good! I need minimal pain meds and just get tired. Other than that, I feel great!

OH! I had my first post op BM today! phew! Glad that is over with ::shivers:: With stitches all around your bum, the thought of pooping can be daunting! But, I survived LOL!

Thanks for being there, sisters!

up and about

Hi
I had my vh on the 22/02 dont know much details as the surgeon was off to another hospital. I can remember someone talking to me saying everthing had gone OK and the surgeon would see me in 10 weeks. I was operated on at 4.00pm remember waking up in recovery dont remember being taken back to the ward.Had to be linked to the blood pressure unit all night, nurse called a Dr and they gave me a ECG because my blood pressure was so high. Was sick think that was due to the morphine.Next day they took the catheter out removed the drip and I was able to walk around.Discharged on Saturday have a infection but they thave given me antibiotics.Getting tired now so we close and update tomorrow.
Hugs to everyone keep posting.

Had my hysterectomy yesterday (26th) with the da vinci robot. The "main" fibrod had gotten so big that they almost couldn't do it that way (it was the size of a bowling ball!) They basically grind everything up and suck it out rather than removing it whole. My doc took the extra time to do it though and I'm so glad he did. I can't imagine how much worse the pain would be if he had done the traditional hysterecomy. Hope the rest of you are doing well!!!
